Development of ionising radiation metrology in Thailand
The national reference laboratories were initiated in 1981 with the support of IAEA and have been continuously developed.
After signing the agreement (MOU) in 2004, OAP has been designated by the National Institute of Metrology of Thailand (NIMT) to be responsible for national measurement standards in the field of ionising radiation and radioactivity.
In 2009, OAP signed the commitment to be a full member of the Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP).
SSDL-OAP received ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation in the scope of survey meter, pocket dosimetry and High-Dose Dosimeter in 2009, 2012 and 2014 respectively.
Ionising Radiation Metrology Building already have got the budget from the cabinet (518 Million Baht) and already constructed in 2015. The Building will be finished by April 2019.
The development and upgrading of Primary Standard Dosimetry/Radioactivity Laboratory for Thailand project has been initiated from 2016-2020 (650 Million Baht).

• The main responsibilities of SSDL-OAP are to maintain standards in radiation protection level and to provide gamma, x-ray and beta calibration services for radiation users in research, industrial and medical sectors.
• The air kerma rates in the beams produced by the highest activity Cs-137 and Co-60 are approximately 27.90 and 0.212 mGy/h respectively at 1 m from the source (22/11/2017).
• A 160 kV X-ray machine was installed and aimed to characterize the photon beam quality between 30-150 kV.
• A Free Air Chamber for low energy X-ray, medium energy X-ray and Two Graphite Cavity Chamber which assembled by KRISS were installed in 2017 and 2018.
• Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) System for dose evaluation were installed in 2017.

Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL of OAP)

• The HDCL plays the role as the national standard in high-dose radiation Dosimetry which can provide high-dose calibration services to support radiation-processing applications such as food processing, sterilisation of medical products, environmental conservation, and polymeric materials.
• The reference standard system which is traceable to NPL is composed of the FRICKE solution, UV-VIS spectrometer and a gamma irradiator (Gammacell 220 Excell irradiator which has initial activity 23 kCi on 12/09/2003).
• A new electron spin resonance spectrometer (ESR) will be installed in 2019.

• The NSRL’s main responsibility is maintaining national standards in radioactivity by using 4-π Ionization system as reference standard that can be traceable to NMIJ.
• The NSRL also provides calibration services such as certifying liquid and solid radioactive sources and calibrating all type of contamination monitors and hand & shoes monitors by using many standard large area sources.
• The NSRL is also equipped with an imaging plates system, a liquid scintillation counters (LSC), well-type and planar HPGe with digital gamma spectrometers.
• Additionally, two transferred dose calibrators are available to be compared at any nuclear medicine centres upon requested.

Traceability › 2 ionisation chambers have calibrated from NMIJ in 2018. › Use FRICKE as reference standard dosimeter to calibrate
the Gammacell 220excell and assured by alanine dosimeters serviced by NPL. The variation of HDCL from NPL in July 2018 was + 1.5 %.
› The IG11/A20 and IG12/N20 ion chambers in 10 cm cylindrical lead shields with Ho-166m reference sources which are traceable to NMIJ, Japan.
