IDB’s Role in Transportation High Risk-Impact Projects Panama Canal Expansion Program – Panama

– IDB Financing: US$400 million (out of US$5.250 million) – Intervention:

• Construction of a third set of locks including lock complexes. • Deepening of the entrances. • Deepening and widening of the navigational channels. • Raising Gatun Lake to its maximum operational level.

IDB’s Role in Transportation Urban Transportation Quito´s Metropolitan Urban Transport System – Ecuador

– IDB Financing: US$300 million (out of US$1.400 million). – Intervention: Financing the construction of 22 km of track, 15 stations, rolling

stock and equipment for the Metro de Quito.

Technological Improvements in Bogota’s Urban Transportation System – IDB Financing: US$40 million. – Intervention: Support the acquisition of 282 buses as a pilot fleet of cleaner

alternatives (hybrid and electric). The fleet is expected to grow to 4.000 by 2017.

IDB’s Role in Transportation Logistic and Integration National Logistics Policy – Colombia

– IDB Financing: US$315 million. – Support the development and implementation of

the National Logistics Policy.

Pacific Corridor – IDB Financing: over US$1.260 million. – The corridor has 3210 km (from Puebla to

Panama City) and supports 95% of the land freight movement in the region.

IDB’s Role in Transportation Transportation Safety AUSA Road Safety and Urban

Mobility Program – Argentina – IDB Financing: US$130 million – Intervention:

• Eliminate all the level crossings between trains and automobiles.

• Reduce the severity of collisions of automobiles.

• Improve the safety of commuters by improved signaling and advanced traffic management systems.
