New York District Key Club Division 18
Hello Division Eighteen,
This is LeeAnn Owens, your Lieutenant Governor. I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families. The holiday season is the busiest service season of all! Take advantage of this opportunity to serve your community by selling Bells of Life with your sponsoring Kiwanis Club, volunteering at local shelters or food pantries, or ‘adopting’ an underprivileged child for the holidays.
LTC 2015 is quickly approaching. Now is the time to fundraise and start saving! I’d like every club to send someone.
My Kiwanis Committee Representative, Mrs. Vail, can be reached at (518)783-6326 or [email protected]. She is a great resource for your advisors, as are your sponsoring Kiwanis Club Presidents. As always, please contact me if there’s ever anything that I can help you with or questions that I can answer!

II.Upcoming EventsDecember Divisional-We will have our December Divisional Meeting the third week of December.
Fashion Show for St. Jude Children’s Research HospitalThis year the Division 18 division wide service project will be a fashion show to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We are looking to have it in mid March. We are going to sell tickets, gain sponsors, and sell raffle tickets for donated items to raise money. Very few people have expressed interest in being on the committee for the fashion show. If you’re interested contact me! We are going to be meeting a couple times a month until the fashion show. We need a committed group of people to make this successful!
Leadership Training Conference 2015- March 27th- 29thThis is the best way to learn from and connect with Key Clubbers from all parts of New York! It will be an unforgettable weekend! Start fundraising now so that you can send a lot of members! The LTC website is open. That’s where you’ll find registration, awards and the Conference Staff application.
III.Division GroupsAPP: The Key Club app is available of the app store and Google Play. It is a great resource! There are new, interesting articles posted on it every week! There is also a tool to track your service projects!Facebook: Facebook is the most effective way to share ideas with other Key Clubbers! Key Clubbers who hold the same position as you are just a click away! We often forget that many of us face similar obstacles. You are one of each other’s greatest resources! Join the Division 18, NYDKC and KCI Facebook groups! There are also groups for individual offices! HOKC: Humans of Key Club is a social media campaign launched in 2014 to highlight the contributions and dedication of individuals in Key Club. They are on Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram. Check them out! You or someone from your club could be featured on HOKC if you send me an idea for an article! State of the District: State of the District emails are Governor Jacob’s way to reach the District as a whole. You can subscribe to them right on the NYDKC site! The next one will be sent out in October!
IV.Service Spotlights
The Hoosick Falls Key Club sponsored a “Hats for Hunger” day at their school. Students brought in a non-perishable food item and got to wear a hat to school that day. 155 food items were collected that day! That afternoon they brought them to the Hoosick Falls Food Pantry to be donated to families in need. They also hosted a “Fill the Bus” food drive where homerooms competed to see who could collect the most non-perishable food items. The third event that they did in their campaign against hunger was a food collection on Halloween. Instead of asking for candy they went door to door collecting food! They collected 220 items that night. Great job Hoosick Falls!

IV.Service Spotlights
A few weeks ago President Kiley Pendergast from the Averill Park Key Club went to the Albany Med Children’s Hospital to deliver the No-Slip Socks that we made at our September Divisional. These are sure to put smiles on a lot of kids’ faces! Thank you to everyone who helped make the socks, and to the Averill Park Key Club for running this Divisional Service Project! Everyone should use this as an example when it’s their turn to plan a divisional service project. Great job Averill Park!

V.Divisional Meeting RecapNovember Divisional
We discussed a lot of important things at our last divisional! I sent the link to a prezi with all of the information from the divisional in the 11/26 update. Here are the things we discussed:I. Monthly Report Forms- I told each club what months their missing. Only five
clubs have perfect paperwork right now!II. Dues- The deadline for dues payment is 12/1. Each club needs 15 paying
members.III. Elections- Club elections must be held before LTC. If you’d like to run for
Lieutenant Governor you need to send me a letter of intent (this can be an email) before the holiday break. If you’re interested in running for a higher office talk to me about it.
IV. LTC- Let’s make it a goal for each club to send someone to LTC! The website is up now with registration, awards and the Conference Staff application.
V. Thankful Dollars- We raised $20 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with our Thankful Dollar session hosted by Tech Valley!
VI. New Clubs- The Stillwater Key Club has been added to Division 18 and we are in the process of chartering a club at La Salle!
VII. Division Wide Service Project- We have decided that this year’s division wide service project will be a fashion show to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
VIII. It’s also important to note that we had more clubs and more people at the November Divisional than at any previous divisional. Way to represent!
VI. Major EmphasisMarch of Dimes
Mission Statement:“We help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. If something goes wrong, we offer information and comfort to families. We research the problems that threaten our babies and work on preventing them”
MarchOfDimes.org
Get Involved:The March of Dimes hosts 5k’s every year to raise money for the program. Get a team together and see how much money you can raise!
VII. Kiwanis District CharitiesKiwanis Pediatric
Lyme Disease FoundationSomething that a lot of
people don’t know is that Lyme Disease, if not treated early, can evolve into a horrible, painful, chronic condition. KPLD raises money to help pay the medical bills of children with chronic Lyme Disease, which are very expensive and not covered by most insurance companies.

Get Involved:KPLD provides tick kits that you can distribute to your community. You can always raise money for the charity, they are a District Project!
