Emmaus Lutheran Church
Eugene, OR
November Newsletter INTRODUCING OUR NEW MEMBERS!
Charlotte Trent I am thrilled to be returning to Emmaus and to be able to call you my home congregation. After graduating from California Lutheran University, I began my role as the Director of Operations and Programs at Camp Lutherwood Ore-gon. After much discernment, I am excited to share that I have recently en-tered into the candidacy process here in the Oregon Synod. Thank you for your warm welcome, support, and prayers. I look forward to walking along-side you on this faith journey. Tom Dodd and Gay Kramer-Dodd Tom Dodd and Gay Kramer-Dodd moved to Eugene in 1995 when Tom accepted a call to serve United Lu-theran as their pastor. Tom and Gay have been married for 45 years and have two grown children. Matthew is married to Alison and they have an an adorable little girl, Michelle. They also live in Eugene. Patrick is engaged to Lauren and they live in San Jose, CA. Since both Gay and Tom retired near the end of 2018, they have been enjoying retirement by staying active, taking some trips, volunteering, and not using the alarm clock. They look forward to getting to know the people of Emmaus ever better in the years to come. Valerie Sacks After 41 years as a jr/sr high school teacher of French , German and a host of other subjects, I retired 8 years ago and last year I moved to Eugene to be near my daughter and her family. I was so lucky to find Emmaus and all of the wonderful people here. Stephanie and Dave Olsen Stephanie and Dave Olsen recently married following several years as widows. Stephanie, formerly from Roseburg was married to George Roberts for 47 years and Dave was married to Gloria for 50 years. Upon discovering that they shared the same age, Scandinavian roots, Lutheranism, were avid Duck sports fans, Oregon wine lovers and golf enthusiasts; they decided to pursue their relationship. Stephanie retired from the YMCA and Dave was the former owner of Olsen’s Auto Glass and Olsen’s Light Truck Parts. Stepha-nie has three sons and four grandchildren and Dave has two sons and two grandchildren. After one year of visiting most of the ELC A churches in the area, they found their church home here at Emmaus. Gaynor & Judy Huck Gaynor and Judy are long time residents of Eugene. They both graduated from Southern Oregon College in Ashland. Gaynor worked in the floor-covering business and Judy was a school teacher before retiring. They have a son, Scott, who works for Intel in Portland, and two granddaughters, McKenna and Kylie. Grace Lindquist I am originally from Minnesota and am getting my PhD in chemistry at the University of Oregon. I am a member of a dance team in Eugene, I host science outreach for middle school students, and am a leader for the graduate Christian fellowship at UO. Outside of school I love baking and reading. Donna Burlingame Donna moved to Eugene from Mississippi to be near her daughter and grandson. She spent her career as a speech-language pathologist. She now spends her time taking care of her grandson, volunteering for the Smart Reading program, and participating in the quilting group at Emmaus.

PUB THEOLOGY
CHOOSE KINDNESS CELEBRATION
2
In keeping with the spirit of the broader pub theology movement that has
given churches across the country an opportunity to explore theological top-
ics in public spaces, we are continuing our grand intellectual and spiritual
experiment by meeting in a pub environment this year. Our next guest pre-
senter will be Terry Glaspey, a local editor. He will be presenting on the top-
ic of “art as midrash” - how art can provide us different interpretive lenses
on the scriptures. We will meet on November 21 from 7:00pm-8:30. Our
location will again be McMenamins North Bank (22 Club Road, Eugene). If
you would like to eat dinner before the event, please arrive by 6:15 to do so.
Please RSVP to Andrew Langford (pastoralassociate @emmauseugene.org)

The Westwinds Flute Choir will perform a concert of music for the
Halloween season on November 3rd at 2:00pm at Emmaus. Come and

JJF: CONTINUING DOWN THE ROAD
It's been several months since the congre-
gation voted to approve a new loan for
our roofing project, our hearing loop pro-
ject, and our accessible bathroom project.
As you know, the roofing project and the
hearing loop project have both been com-
pleted. Thanks to all for the generous donations you have made to the
JJF campaign so far! However, monthly donations to our Joyous
Journey campaign are not keeping pace with our required loan pay-
ments. On average, donations are about $800 less than the required
payment each month. Remember, this is a separate commitment
from your offerings that support our church operations. Please help
as you can. If you have questions, please speak with our treasurer,
Dave Frosaker, or JJF chairperson, Mike Barnes.
