This is the third time that Hyflux has won in the category since the inception of the Awards in 2003. The company received nominations from analysts, fund managers, financial journalists and retail investors represented by SIAS. This prestigious annual award is endorsed and supported by SGX, Standard & Poors, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Singapore Institute of Directors (SID), Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS), The Business Times & Asian Corporate Governance Association. Conversation with CEO: Making Hyflux stronger amidst the global economic crisis A t the Conversation with CEO held on 19 September 2008, Hyflux Group CEO Ms Olivia Lum and Group Deputy CEO Sam Ong addressed Hyflux staff to encourage them and shared insights on what makes a company strong and sustainable, especially during the global economic crisis. In his speech, Mr Sam Ong highlighted the importance of instilling confidence in our shareholders and customers. He said that everyone is vulnerable to the loss of confidence. Confidence is transient and can be shaken easily, especially for those who do not know the company that they invest in and the leadership behind the company. The recent economic crisis has shown that people can lose confidence in the largest financial institutions overnight, and even past glories could not prevent some of the biggest blue chip names from vanishing. What Hyflux staff can do to instill confidence in our customers is to express appreciation to them and go the extra mile to exceed their expectations. Mr Ong further urged Hyflux staff to adopt the right attitudes, which may be lacking in some very successful people. He emphasised the importance of humility, “I would like to remind all of us to be humble, prudent and practical about our approach to all the things we do at work. Humility in the leadership of the company is what sustains the company in the long run.” He noted that the outlook for Hyflux is bright, and encouraged staff to be proud of what Hyflux has been able to achieve in the past and present. However, he pointed out that staff must continue to work hard and stay focused. He said, “We look forward to the second half of the year where we will be finalising key funding platforms, completing key project milestones in Algeria, China and India. In the upcoming quarters, we see that the window of opportunity is better than ever. We cannot be complacent now. Hyfl ux Wins “Most Transparent Company Award” at SIAS Investors’ Choice Awards 2008

Hyfl ux won the “Most Transparent Company Award 2008” in the Services / Utilities / Agriculture Category at the SIAS Investors’ Choice Awards 2008 held on 9 October 2008. This is the third time that Hyfl ux has won in the category since the inception of the Awards in 2003.

Conversation with CEO: Making Hyfl ux stronger amidst the global economic crisis

At the Conversation with CEO held on 19 September 2008, Hyfl ux Group CEO Ms Olivia Lum and Group Deputy CEO Sam Ong addressed Hyfl ux staff to

encourage them and shared insights on what makes a company strong and sustainable, especially during the global economic crisis.

Ms Olivia Lum speaks at international conferenceHyfl ux Group CEO, President and Managing Director Ms Olivia Lum was invited to speak on sustainable development at the plenary session of the Inaugural Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Singapore.

Modelled after the ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD)’ event, held annually in India, the PBD Singapore is an international conference organised by the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI), the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), with the support of the Governments of Singapore and India.

Aimed at strengthening Singapore’s economic ties with India and reaching out to the Indian Diaspora in the Asia-Pacifi c and beyond, the conference was held from 9 – 11 October 2008 at the Suntec City Convention Centre.

The PBD Singapore attracted some 600 participants and was attended by local and foreign dignitaries, including Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong as well as India’s Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi and Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath.

Hyfl ux shares expertise at NTU business roundtable What are the business opportunities that may result from investing in a more sustainable water supply? These and other global business issues were examined at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU)’s annual Asian Business Case Competition (ABCC) - Roundtable Discussion, held on 14 October 2008. Ten universities from Asia Pacifi c, Europe and America took part in this year’s ABCC.

The ABCC is an international business case competition organised by NTU. A key highlight of the event is the Roundtable Discussion, which provides a platform for university students to exchange their ideas on current issues and trends in the business world today.

Hyfl ux @ Aquatech Amsterdam 2008Hyfl ux participated in the Aquatech Amsterdam 2008 which attracted 19,000 visitors from more than 130 countries. Held from 30 September - 3 October 2008, this biennial event saw water leaders exhibiting the latest array of membrane and water technologies.

The event highlighted membrane fi ltration as the water technology of the future and this was clearly demonstrated by the gathering of the world’s leading water technology companies.

Hyfl ux’s booth attracted attention from the investment and research communities as well as major water industry players. Research organisations such as Paques, Wetsus and the National Sanitation Foundation International (NSF International) took special interest in our membrane capabilities and suite of products.

The highlight was the visit by investors led by Goldman Sachs to gain a better understanding of our growth strategies. The team was impressed that Hyfl ux’s fi nancial position will not be weakened in the light of the current credit crunch; instead, it will be bolstered by the company’s strong strategic and technological fundamentals, and our commitment to excellence.

Indeed, Hyfl ux’s presence at Aquatech was strongly felt and helped push our already strong name even further.

The ABCC Roundtable Discussion, which was held over lunch, saw students actively exchanging ideas on global business issues.

Students were split into different groups during the Roundtable Discussion to explore ideas on how to build an environmentally sustainable economy. Some of the sub-topics for discussion included education, energy, construction, fi nance and water.

Mr Freddy Soon, Hyfl ux Senior Vice President of Group Communications and Relations, shared his experience in the water sector with participants from the United States and New Zealand. Guided by Mr Soon, the students examined and discussed water issues on both global and local fronts and presented their ideas to the rest of the ABCC participants.

Hyfl ux hosts Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences research team Fifteen delegates from the Industrial Research Committee (IRC) of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences visited the Hyfl ux headquarters on 17 October 2008.

The team, led by Mr Marten Lindstrom, Chairman of IRC, is comprised of R&D managers from the biochemistry, construction, electric power, paper, steel, and telecommunications industries. As part of their study trip to Singapore, the team was interested to learn how Hyfl ux leveraged on its R&D strategy to become one of the leading players in the water industry.

Senior Vice President Mr Freddy Soon hosted the delegation. During the discussion, Mr Soon shared that the leadership of Hyfl ux Group CEO, President and Managing Director, Ms Olivia Lum, and the company’s strategic partnerships with established research institutes, have been instrumental to Hyfl ux’s sustainable growth.

The R&D managers were particularly impressed by the SingSpring Desalination Plant - one of Hyfl ux’s landmark projects in Singapore - that was accorded the Distinction Award for Desalination Plant of the Year at the Global Water Awards 2006.

Managing Director and Head of China Structured Projects, Mr Peter Wu, hosted 30 government offi cials from Jiangsu, China on 28 October 2008 at the SingSpring Desalination Plant.

Led by Jiangsu Environment Protection Department Deputy Director-General Ms Zheng Ruifang, the delegates were in Singapore for a one-week study mission on environment protection. Amongst the delegation were senior offi cials from the municipal, district and county governments in Jiangsu.

The delegates were impressed with the energy effi ciency of the plant, and the computerised monitoring of the plant’s performance.

Visit by Vietnamese delegation Managing Director and Head of Oil Recycling, Ms Poh Teck Heok, hosted nine delegates from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam at the SingSpring Desalination Plant on 18 September 2008.

Headed by Director General Mr Hoang Minh Dao, these delegates were in Singapore on a study tour to learn about the country’s experiences in environmental management as well as the development of environmental protection services models. Head of Operations and Maintenance Singapore, Mr Michael Siew, led the delegates on a guided tour of the facility and explained the various stages of the desalination process.

During the visit, General Manager, Oil Recycling, Ms Lim Choon Noi, gave a presentation about Hyfl ux’s partnership with Success Blossoms in Ha Tay Province, Vietnam.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam is responsible for the development of environmental service policies in Vietnam.

Project Updates

Civil and structural works on the Tianjin Dagang Desalination Plant are progressing well, and mechanical and electrical installations have commenced. When completed in 2009, the plant will be one of the biggest desalination facilities in China, supplying industrial and city grade water to the district of Dagang in Tianjin at 100,000 m3/day for an initial period of 30 years.

Construction of the sea water desalination plant in Tlemcen, Algeria is progressing smoothly and on schedule. Upon completion, the 200,000 m³/day plant will supply desalinated water to L’Algerienne Des Eaux, the state-owned national water entity of Algeria and Sonatrach SPA, the national oil company of Algeria for a period of 25 years.

Since its offi cial opening in September 2005 by Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the SingSpring Desalination Plant in Tuas, has welcomed more than 4,200 local and international visitors as of September 2008. Just this year alone, Hyfl ux has organised 76 plant visits for more than 800 visitors to-date, averaging two visits per week.

While delegates from China make up the bulk of the international visitors, the plant has received visitors from close to 20 countries, including Algeria, Australia, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Turkey and the U.S.

For this year, 60% of the visits were offi cial and business related, and included guests of our various business units; 15% were investor-related visits and offi cial visits which emanate mainly from PUB, IE Singapore and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Some of the VIPs who have toured the plant included ambassadors based in Singapore and:

• Former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

• Secretary of Tangshan Municipal Committee, China, Mr Zhao Yong

• Mayor of Huludao Municipal Government, China, Mr Sun Zhao Lin

• Australian Capital Territory Chief Minister, Mr Jon Stanhope

• Minister for Water Resources and Irrigation, Egypt, His Excellency Mahmoud Abu Zeid

The $200 million plant uses reverse osmosis to recover potable water from sea water and was awarded the Distinction Award for Desalination Plant of the Year at the Global Water Awards 2006, by Global Water Intelligence UK.

凯发在10月9日举行的新加坡证券投资协会(SIAS)“2008年投资者之选”颁奖礼上击败群雄,夺得服务/公用事业/农业组的“最透明公司奖”。这是自2003年SIAS主办奖项以来,凯发在该组中第三次夺冠。

凯发在投选活动中获得分析师、基金经理、财经记者,以及 SIAS 代表的个人投资者们的青睐。这项备受瞩目的年度奖项获得新加坡交易所、标准普尔、PricewaterhouseCoopers、新加坡董事学会、新加坡会计师协会、《商业时报》和亚洲公司治理协会等机构鼎力支持。

自2005年9月开幕以来,新泉海水淡化厂至今年9月为止,已接待了超过4,200名本地和海外访客。单是今年,凯发已接待超过800名访客,共76个参观团,平均每星期接待两个参观团。

到访新泉海水淡化厂的访客以来自中国的居多,除此之外,水厂也接待了近20个国家的访客,其中包括来自阿尔及利亚、澳洲、加拿大、德国、印度、日本、哈萨克斯坦、荷兰、纽西兰、土耳其和美国的访客。

就今年来说,官方和商务访客占了总访客人数的60%,其中还包括不少来自凯发旗下公司的客户。另外,约15%的访客与投资者关系相关,有不少访客还是经由新加坡公用事业局、新加坡国际企业发展局,以及外交部的介绍前来参观水厂。

不少海外贵宾就曾莅临新泉海水淡化厂,其中包括各国驻本地大使,与以下贵宾:

江苏省代表团参访新泉海水淡化厂为进一步了解海水淡化过程,30名来自中国江苏省的政府代表在10月28日参观了位于新加坡大士的新泉海水淡化厂。凯发董事总经理胡少坚会见了由江苏省环保厅副厅长郑蕊芳女士率领的代表团,并向团员们介绍了新泉海水淡化厂。代表团此行是为了考察新加坡的环境保护与相关项目。代表团对新泉海水淡化厂的节能效益以及水厂的电脑化监控系统留下深刻印象。
