My dear parishioners,

I am greatly indebted to the dedicated members of our Finance Committee for the service that they give to this community of faith throughout the year. Their oversight and sound advise regarding our financial well being is a significant contribution in helping us continue our mission. Fundamentally our mission is to help each of us become disciples of Jesus Christ. A disciple knows the Master, can recognize the ways He is at work in our time and knowing the mind and heart of the Master actively cooperates in helping Him build the Kingdom of God.

Your financial contributions, primarily through the Sunday collection, are a significant way that practically we carry on this mission. This makes it possible to pay the salaries of those who work full time as disciples and provide the leadership and service we come to expect. The sacrifices you make are what pay our bills; heat, light, maintenance, insurance; just the same as you maintain your own homes and property. Our church, parish center and rectory are the places we need so we can gather for prayer, instruction in the faith and find support in keeping our relationship with Jesus a priority.

At all our Masses this weekend Jim Gondek, the chairman of our Finance Committee will give the tradi-tional year end report on how we have spent the money you contributed so that we can carry on our mission. I am deeply grateful for your generosity that makes it possible for us to meet our responsibilities. As I have from the beginning, I assure you that every cent is being used thoughtfully and accountable to your fellow parishioners on the Finance Com-mittee. My pledge is transparency.

I believe we are a parish alive under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and becoming more so all the time: I see this happening in a variety of ways but especially through the Light of the World retreats. Attendance at Mass is increasing at St. Roch’s, the faith sharing communities of support continue to meet, more people are coming to confes-sion. We have much more to get done. We need to train more lectors, Eucharistic ministers and servers. We need more parishioners willing to bring communion to the homebound. There is always much more to do but I know that the talents and goodwill are there. We press on step by step.

I am prayerfully grateful for all those who without a lot of fanfare do so much already; those who give so much at the Festival and Harvest Fair and the numerous other fundraisers. Those who love and instruct our young peo-ple. Those who love and care for the disadvantaged. St. Roch’s is a parish that works and I thank God every day that I am your pastor

Let us continue to love one another,

Fr. Roy

BOOT DRIVE

The St. Vincent de Paul Society will continue to hold their annual boot drive during the month November for the needy in our area.

Clean used boots for children, women, and men are desperately needed for local shelters. Boots can be placed in the bins inside the church entrances. Thank you!

DAYS OF ATONEMENT will be on the first and third Mondays.

December 3 & 17 Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will follow the 8:30 am Mass until Benediction at noon time. If you are unable to participate in these

prayerful gatherings, you are invited to observe the Atone-ment Day by fasting. Our intention is that as we make repa-ration for sin, both the survivors of the sex abuse crisis and our Church will be healed.

GIVING TREE

Next weekend the Saint Vincent de Paul Society is once again sponsoring the Giving Tree for the needy children of Oxford. The Giving Tree will have tags with the age and

gender of a child placed on it. Please take a tag and pur-chase a gift and place your wrapped gift with the original tag under the Giving Tree by December 3rd. (Please do not drop off after this date-the presents will be collected on the 4th) Suggested gift value $15-$20. The commu-nity of St. Roch’s always has the spirit of giving deep within its heart! Thank you in advance for this worth-while project! Your generosity truly makes a difference.

St. Roch Parish is responsible for sending 12-15 adults to the Food Shelf to distribute food and help with carrying groceries to the cli-ent’s vehicles on each of the first three Thurs-days of December. (Dec. 6, 13, 20)

Sign up sheets are available at the entrances to the church. This is a big commitment at such a busy season. Please do not sign up unless you really plan to be there on that Thursday. It's recognized that we bring a very nice spirit to the Thursdays when we are the host parish. The Food Shelf is located in the Oxford Community Cen-ter. Please arrive before 5:15pm. Thanks so much for your help and your continued support of the Food Shelf.

*******

St. Roch collects and redistributes new calendars at this time of year to Food Shelf clients. They seem to really appreciate to be able to choose one to take home. Children who accompany the clients are also offered stickers which they love. Calendars and stickers can be left in the Food Shelf container at the front of our Church. Many thanks for re-gifting these items at this time.
