Jottings from Father Joe…
THANKSGIVING IS UPON US. You might remember that holiday when families got together and in a special way offered thanks to God and had a special feast of turkey, sweet potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie. Alas, one might ask is Thanksgiving becoming a thing of the past. Please excuse my sarcasm. The fact is that the day is now taken over by retail. As an American, I protest the takeover of the holiday by forces out to undermine our traditions. For the remnant who may be interested in celebrating the tradition of the day, Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM on Thursday morning at the Saint Edward site. A prayer for safe travel is extended to all who will be journeying this weekend.
THE PARISH OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED WEDNESDAY (Clerical Day), THURSDAY (Thanksgiving), AND FRIDAY November 27, 28 and 29. For all who are participating in the Thanksgiving raffle, your tickets must be in the parish office by Monday, November 25, 2013.
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1 marks the beginning of a New Church year as the church celebrates the first Sunday of Advent. There is a calendar insert for your use during this season. The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated on December 8. However, this year that date falls on Sunday, so the solemnity will be celebrated on Monday, December 9. The obligation to attend Mass is lifted this year. Please note changes this year in the Christmas Eve schedule as we begin alternating sites and times for the Solemnity of Christmas.
FROM OUR HOLY FATHER POPE FRANCIS: “Being
Christian is not just obeying orders but means being in
Christ, thinking like him, acting like him, loving like him; it
mean letting him take possession of our life and change
it, transform it, and free it from the darkness of evil and
sin.”
~ Fr. Joe
