This month, we’re going to be discovering these very things. Here’s how the series will go this

November 24 – MY INVITATION CAN CHANGE THE WORLD – John 1:40-51
And then … ADVENT BEGINS with ‘A SEASON OF HOPE.’ God has a special plan for each and every

COME, YE THANKFUL PEOPLE, COME…
“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.” 1 Chronicles 16:34 (NLT)
Dear Trinity family,
I can’t believe this is November already—the month of Thanksgiving! And we, as the people of God, have so much to be thankful for. I’ve been thinking lately, even in the midst of the ups and downs of life, how God watches over us—as we place our faith in him—no matter what our current circumstances. My mind is also on those … less fortunate than us. And you don’t have to look too far to find them—those that are hungry, those that are lonely, and those that have been down on their luck for way too long. As the church of Jesus Christ, we are called to serve others, and that’s exactly what we’ll have an opportunity to do later on this month—in a very special way.
Nancy Pahnke, and others, will be organizing and leading our Thanksgiving Dinner that we serve here at Trinity UMC on Thanksgiving Day. The meal happens over the noon hour. We offer food for those who can’t afford to supply their own Thanksgiving meal. We also offer a safe place for folks to come and dine in our Fellowship Hall, so they won’t have to eat alone. These are things, as a community, we can do … and must.
Won’t you consider coming and joining us in serving the Thanksgiving Meal on Thanksgiving Day? Jane and I will be a part of the team that serves others on this day; and we’re wrapped up in plenty of time to go and have a meal with our family in the area too. It doesn’t have to be a choice of one or the other; both are possible. Then, both are cared for—both are served in the name of Christ.
I’m reminded too of one of my favorite Thanksgiving hymns that goes like this: Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home; All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin. God our Maker doth provide for our wants to be supplied; Come to God’s own temple, come, raise the song of harvest home.
We have an incredible opportunity, in the name of the One who’s shown us what serving is all about. Let’s help bring the people safely in. Then, let’s help raise the song of harvest home … together. And let’s not forget Paul’s words to the Colossians (3:17, NLT), when he said: “And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” LOVE, GROW, and SERVE is what Trinity’s all about! Come help us live out who we are, as we serve others in our community this Thanksgiving! Working together to make His Body stronger,

Through the Doors
“Open my eyes that I may see glimpses of truth Thou hast for me. Place in my hand the wonderful key that shall
unclasp and set me free.” Powerful wands about the acceptance of Jesus and following the right path to gain
heaven’s gate. But these same words can be applied to other circumstances. Consider a young boy of five or six
living on a dairy farm on a dead end gravel road in 1943. For me, at that time, the farm was all the world to me
and I was contented. After all, my loving parents and brother were there, the animals- so what more was there.
But there was more, much more and the start of
another school year brings it all back to me- those early school
years. In 1944, having reached school age, I began my
education in a one-room school called Glen Valley School.
Located north of Campbellsport on Highway V where the old
Chicago Northwestern Railroad crosses the highway. Little did I
know that this school and wonderful teacher Miss Germaine
Schommer would instill in that young lad the thirst for
knowledge and to learn more about the world beyond the
borders of our farm and neighborhood. The school still stand
albeit now converted into a home and Miss Schommer, my
teacher for grades 1-8 is still with us and residing in Eden. So passing the school/home is like passing the corner
where Ebenezer Church once stood, my mind harkens back to when I found Jesus and my eyes were opened to
the teachings of Jesus and passing the school where my eyes were
opened to the learning of the world.
The School and that teacher made a lasting and profound
impact on my life. Due to the teaching of Miss Schommer and the
way she taught us, I was moved in later life to choose teaching as my
career. The over three decades of my life as a teacher was prompt-
ed when I first stepped through the doors of Glen Valley School. So
deep was the experience that my recollection of those by gone days
are still fresh in my mind.
To demonstrate, I can still visualize the room and where
everything was located-all after the elapse of 75 years. A Country school with little revenue for enrichment
programs, we relied upon station WHA from Madison to provide this aspect of our education. Every week had
the same progression of programs: Monday was given to study nature and our environment program was called
“Afield with Ranger Mack”. Tuesday was “Let’s Draw” taught by Professor James Schwalbach. That day the
teacher gave each of us a large sheet of manila paper and we took our crayons and created “works of art”. On
Wednesday it was “Let’s Sing” with Professor Gordon. Here we learned about notes, harmony and would sing
songs from a pamphlet sent out by the state (I still have one of them). “Music Appreciation” with Mrs. Eulida
Murphy introducing us to the classics of Beethoven, Mozart, Bach and the light classical music. Fridays was art
appreciation, Miss Schommer would show us a picture of a famous painting by Raphael, Gainsborough and
others. We would discuss what made the painting unique and so forth.
As I think back to that time-a one room school with no running water and no plumbing- how different
from today and all the technical marvels to enhance our present day education. While these (Continued)
The loss of a loved one often happens at the least expected moment, giving rise to the need of
making unplanned arrangements in a time of sorrow. Planning ahead for this inevitable event is
recommended and will ease the burden at this stressful time of need.
The selection of the final resting place should be given careful consideration with respect to the final
wishes of the family and the loved one. Location, accessibility, maintenance, and family tradition are
important qualities that should be thought of well in advance of the demand.
Trinity United Methodist Cemetery Association sponsors three well developed, beautifully
landscaped, perpetually maintained final resting places. Located in quiet, rural surroundings, choice
parcels are available on the sites of the former Emanuel and Ebenezer churches. The Salem
grounds in the Village of Lomira offers more urban surroundings. These sites represent historic fami-
ly resting places dating back to before the Civil War. Many sites are available at each of these loca-
tions. More detailed information may be obtained at our church website. www.trinitylomira.org
CEMETERY ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES PRICE INCREASE
The Trinity Cemetery Association has announced an increase in the cost of purchasing cemetery lots
at all three of the locations. Increased costs of perpetual care and maintenance are the primarily rea-
sons for the need. New prices will become effective as of January 1, 2020:
For members of Trinity Church, lot prices will be increased to $500.00 per lot from the current
$300.00. Perpetual care will be increased to $500.00 per person from the current $300.00.
For non-members, lot prices will be increased to $1,000.00 per lot from the current $600.00.
Perpetual care will be increased to $1,000.00 per person from the current $600.00.

things were not yet available to us, we were still able to learn a great deal. Sometimes we learned about life
and the interaction with others. Time was simpler then- we paid little attention to fashion- so what if our
clothes were patched. We learned to accommodate- because school was small, softball games meant that
everyone participated from grade 1-8. Little ones were unable to hit a tossed ball, so we rolled it on the
ground. All were allowed to participate and to win. We learned the importance of cooperation and the ap-
plication of the Golden Rule.
Thus walking through the doors of Ebenezer Church and the doors of Glen Valley School was very
much alike. Through the portals of church my eyes were opened to the world of God and the glories of
Heaven. Through the doors of Glen Valley School, my eyes were opened to the greater world around us.
Both first time experiences forever changed my life. God has a plan for each of us and His hand is every-
where. I am indebted to Him for placing a great teacher like Miss Schommer on my path, who opened the
eyes of that young farm boy and sending the great teacher- Jesus- to open my eyes spiritually.
There is a great deal more that could be written about Glen Valley School and my experience there.
Perhaps I will. I loved that little school, the teacher and my fellow students, but most of all I love God!

month of October. I truly appreciate your thoughtful-
ness! It’s not only about me...it’s about the wonderful
people in the choir, who love to sing and help me
spread God’s message to you. I can’t do it without
them! It’s heartwarming for me to know that my love

The real joy for us is to work in the Church for Jesus.
From a plaque in our home- Only one life twill soon be
past, only what’s done for Christ will last. As adults we
can watch our children to see how Love and Thanks is
shown.– The Bible does tell us “A Little Child Shall Lead
Them.” Trinity children are raised well and hold a
bright future. It is very nice to be appreciated by our
church family and we do thank you so much! You
have a special warmth and caring we feel always.
Our Love to ALL,
