Job Title: Senior Research Fellow in Organic Solar Cells

Salary: £37,394 - £45,954 (0.8 FTE pro rata, in accordance with the Newton Institutional Links funded programme financial guidelines for this scheme)

Contract Status: This 0.8 FTE post is available immediately and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 8 months until 31 March 2016.
Hours of Work:0.8 FTE – 29.0 hours per week
Location:Faculty of Engineering, University Park, Nottingham, NG7 2RD
Reporting to:Dr. Roderick MacKenzie and Prof. David Grant
Purpose of the New Role:
The successful candidate will work with Dr. Roderick MacKenzie and Professor David Grant in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham. Working as part of a Newton Institutional Links funded programme, the successful candidate will be required to design, fabricate and test organic solar cells in association with University partners in Malaysia.
The candidate will also be responsible for designing, fabricating and implementing electro-mechanical systems for the production and characterisation of solar cells, in particular laser-optical and electrical characterisation tools. IP protection and commercialisation of coatings will form a key role in the perceived industrial scale-up of technologies.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential

Qualifications/ Education
· PhD or equivalent in thin film coatings or relevant engineering discipline and possess a minimum of five years relevant additional experience
· A 2:1 or 1st class honours first degree in a relevant discipline such as materials engineering, electrical/electronic engineering or physics
Skills/Training
· Hands-on experience with PVD, evaporative, spin-coating and lithographical techniques in either a research or industrial setting
· Ability to design, fabricate and implement electro-mechanical systems for the production and characterisation of solar cells, in particular laser-optical and electrical characterisation tools.
· Excellent communication skills
· Ability to present scientific work in oral and written format
· Familiarity with LabView development
· Risk Assessment, Health and Safety management
· Quality systems/procedure implementation
Experience
· Proven industrial track record in design, development and production of novel thin films
· Experience in IP protection and commercialisation of coatings
· Effective interaction with other research and industrial partners
· Experience with development of organic solar cells
· Track record in securing funding
