Congratulations to everybody who took on the third Lent Challenge - to be off-grid for an hour - sometimes not as easy as it seems! Next week’s challenge is to make contact with somebody (phone call, letter, card etc) you’ve not been in touch with for a while… The PCC will be meeting on 16 March and re-opening the church will be on the agenda. We’re currently in unknown waters, and dependent on various tests the government has set, but probably the first thing to happen will be opening the building for private prayer. This may be as early as end of March. Then re- instating services, which will probably be dependent on announcements made on 12 April, but if things go well we could be back in church mid April. These are “best guesses” at the moment. Mavis Cooke and family have been overwhelmed by all the beautiful cards, letters, flowers, phone calls and messages since Brian’s death. We wish to thank the clergy and the church family for their support during this time and in enabling us to fulfil Brian’s wishes and give him the send-off he requested and so richly deserved. WWW Part ii: We are very happy to announce that over the past 10 weeks, the members of Woody's Weekly Weigh-In have lost a total of 55 lbs! Thanks to everybody who took part, and of course to everybody who sponsored us! We have all decided that we'd like to continue for a further 10 weeks, so if anybody else would like to join us, please let me know by phone (784206) or e-mail [email protected] It's very easy - it's £1 per week for the 10 week course, and every penny raised goes to St Mary's.You just weigh yourself every Friday morning and e- mail me the results, which I keep safe (and secret!). The only information shared is the weekly loss of the whole group - not the individuals. Contact me if you're interested! A Cunning Quiz on Zoom! Fr Andrew is donning his QuizMaster’s hat and invites you to a Zoom quiz at 7pm on Sat 27 March! Keep your little grey cells active - play as a household for MASSIVE prizes*! (* this is a lie). Drop Fr A an e mail for the codes you need! We’re very grateful to Mike Baldock who has organised the Coffee Rota at St Mary’s for many years. Mike’s stepping back, so once things return to normal we’ll need a new Coffee Champion! Brian Cooke’s death has been a loss to us in many ways: one of which is that we have lost our Electoral Roll Officer. If you think you might be able to take over, please have a word with one of the clergy. Thank you. Thank you for all the tinned dried and packet materials which keep arriving at the Vicarage doorstep for the diocesan Food Bank - there’s a photo with the mailing this week, but altogether we sent off 8 boxes and 7 bags this month - I think possibly the largest load to date! Thank you for your love in action. Still free to a good home!: Epson Eco-Tank L355 printer/ scanner/copier with ink, cables etc. See Fr Andrew for more details. Don’t forget the Virtual Coffee Morning on Zoom at 10am on Thursdays - the passwords you need are available from the clergy. You can join by telephone too. From Richard and Jenny, Covid-19 Vaccination Champions: People aged 55 to 59 are now being invited to book their life-saving Covid jab this week as the NHS vaccination programme continues to gather pace. The latest invites have been sent after more than 613,333 vaccinations had been delivered across Sussex (by Sunday 28 February). The nationally published data shows that more than 94% of people aged over 70 had received their first dose by the end of February, along with 84% of people aged 65-69. People receiving the letters are invited to go online to the national booking service to arrange a jab at a time and location that is convenient for them at one of the vaccination centres or pharmacy led services. If anyone is not able to go online, they can call 119 free of charge. The NHS is vaccinating in line with JCVI guidance which sees people invited to be vaccinated in order of risk, which increases with age. People aged between 50 and 55 are set to be invited shortly. Remember: if you receive a text from the sender “NHSvaccine” you can be sure it's genuine, but always remember the NHS will never ask for payment or your bank details Please remember in your prayers those in special need especially: Gordon; Janet; June Kirkham; Sue Ralph; Lucy Parkes; Sue Douglas; Peter; Angie Jackson; John White; Ruth Sherwin; Lou. We remember those who’ve died recently: Brenda Shaw; Julian Stainsby; Brian Cooke; John Bird. and those whose anniversary falls this coming week: Sybil Shaw; Leslie Woolfenden; Mel Collett; John Wait; Florence Evans; John Robinson; Charles Rowbottom; Ruth Amos.
