WHATrsquoS ONGuide

Parents Guide

1 RECLAIM BEDTIMEAbout a week and a half before school starts I try and get the kids back on school night routine of going to bed at 930 This helps their body transition back to normal school hours Without this transition time it is often hard for kids to wake up early for school Having them go back to their nightly routine prior to school starting will bode well for the both of you and make it easier

2 GET ORGANIZEDThe time to get organized is before school starts not after Go through clothes and shoes and donate or give away the items that no longer fit make sure you have all the pencils pens and shapers etc I find the right uniform also helps

3 WRITE A GOAL LISTI find that focusing the childrenrsquos minds by asking them to write out what they want to achieve and accomplish throughout the school year enables them to achieve more I do this by a funky wall chart and this helps the child achieve their aims and gives them more self confidence to go and achieve goals and be more independent

4 CHECK-LISTThis is essential the night before I make sure all the uniforms are wash ironed and hanging up ready to grab Having a Kidsrsquo Daily Checklist can make it easier for both of you to be on the same page It can help your kids with responsibility and being on top of their chores homework hygiene etc and itrsquos a good way for you to make sure they are doing what you have asked them to do

Fresh-Grown Herbs are Best

We typically think of culinary herbs as useful flavourings They round out flavour profiles add complexity to otherwise basic dishes meld with other herbs to form novel taste compounds that you canrsquot quite place and cannot be replicated with any other combination and used with a subtle skilled hand simply make food taste incredible Oh and like most seemingly inconsequential things people have been adding to food for thousands of years they also happen to have some fascinating health benefits

A Few Herby Tips1Use a wide variety of herbs2Never use too much of any single herb at once3Try different blends 4Grow some fresh herbs and keep plenty of dried on hand5Let your taste buds guide you6Add herbs when cooking fats this wonrsquot just protect the fat from oxidation but it will also provide the best flavor 7Feed your pregnant ewe plenty of thyme

Brilliant Teenager Invents Device That Produces Clean Energy AND Fresh Water

Google has announced the finalists of this yearrsquos Google Science Fair and the line-up is impressive But among the 15 inventions designed to make the world a better place Cynthia Sin Nga Lamrsquos submission is definite-ly a major standout Concerned about the millions of people living without energy and water the 17-year-old student scientist from Australia built H2 Pro ndash a Portable Photo catalytic Electricity Generation and Water Purification Unit that produces both clean energy and fresh water at the same time With the H2Pro Cynthia aims to tackle two problems at once how to provide clean water and electricity to the many people around the world who have neither

wwwinhabitatcomSource

Currently 780 million people lack access to clean water while 12 billion live without electricity The H2Pro could change that using photo catalytic technology which simultaneous-ly purifies water and generates electricity using only sunlight In her application Cynthia explains that while investigating photo catalysis she stumbled upon the idea of the H2Pro

Derry is the only remaining completely intact walled city in Ireland and one of the finest examples of a walled city in EuropeThe Walls which are approximately 1mile (16 km) in circumference and which vary in height and width between 12 and 35 feet (37 and 107 metres) are completely intact and form a walkway around the inner city

They provide a unique promenade to view the layout of the original town which still preserves its Renaissance style street plan
