Dear Music Parent,
Your child has been invited to be in the 2017 MassMEA Northeastern District
Treble Chorus! Identified by your child’s music teacher as someone who has shown enthusiasm and ability in singing, we look forward to your child’s participation. The Northeastern District of Massachusetts Music Educators Association has designed this opportunity with area music teachers to provide a positive and meaningful experience for young musicians. As a non-profit organization for local music teachers, we are seeking to promote a fun introductory to vocal collaborative performances.
We’ve invited students in 4th and 5th grade from all over the North Shore and
Merrimack Valley to join us in this celebration of music in spring. Throughout the course of this experience, your child will be practicing music on their own and with their music teacher to prep for the festival and performance. It’s up to them to prepare for and attend at least one large group rehearsal on February 4th or March 4th. Vocalists must also be able to attend the festival on Saturday, March 25th from 8:30am-3:30pm. Please complete the Permission Slip, Medical Form, and Festival Fee of $25 and return it to your child’s music teacher by November 23rd.
We hope that you will take advantage of the tremendous opportunity for your
child and join us this year for the 2017 Northeastern District Treble Chorus Festival at Galvin Middle School (525 Main St.) in Wakefield, MA. Sincerely, Tyler Polston General Music Coordinator MassMEA Northeastern District Tony Beatrice Northeastern District Chair MassMEA

MassMEA Northeastern District Treble Chorus Festival Information Sheet for Teacher
Dear Music Teacher, The Northeastern District of Massachusetts Music Educator’s Association is proud to announce that it will be hosting the Treble Chorus Festival on Saturday, March 25th 2017. If you have students that have demonstrated a strong interest in singing, this opportunity is for you and them! Our goal is to provide a positive experience for students to prepare and perform music for a concert with their peers. It’s also a lot of fun and your child will get to work with great educators and clinicians along the way to develop their musicianship skills! Please review all the following information and register your eligible students by December 1st, 2016 in order to participate. Date: We will be hosting the festival weekend (including performance) on Saturday, March 25th (Alternate: April 1). Participating singers must attend one of the two group practices scheduled along with a chaperone. Teachers of participating singers must attend at least one group practice. Group practices have been scheduled for:
• Sat., Feb. 4th (9am-12pm) • Sat., Mar. 4th (9am-12pm) • Location: TBA (Merrimack Valley & East Coast).

Student should demonstrate understanding of basic concepts in solo and vocal ensemble singing. Selection: This year the chorus will be mixed grade levels of 4th and 5th grade students; chosen by teacher recommendation. In an effort to provide an equitable way for as many schools to participate, the planning Task Force has developed the following data-driven decision,
• The amount of students a teacher can recommend will be based on total SCHOOL enrollment of 4th and/or 5th grade students
(as reported by the DESE 15-16SY data). • Teachers may recommend up to 3 singers to contribute to the chorus for the first
100 students in 4th and/or 5th grade SCHOOL enrollment • For each additional 50 students in a school's total enrollment of 4th and/or 5th
grade students, a teacher may recommend 1 additional student to the chorus. Check out www.northeasterndistrict.org to determine how many eligible students you are able to recommend to the chorus based on DESE SY15-16 Enrollment Data.
Music teachers should ONLY recommend students that: ü Consistently uses head voice while singing and accurately matches pitch ü Excellent tone quality and breath support ü Ability to read and perform basic, standard music notation ü Ability to receive feedback and adapt to cues of a conductor ü Full of energy and enthusiasm for music and singing. ü Will be able to attend at least one group practice and the festival on March 25.
