I am organising the North Sydney Community Awards to say thank you to the many volunteers and community organisations that work to make our area a better place. There are many people quietly working in our area to help others in need or in support of the community .

My electorate encompasses a diverse cross-section of interesting, vibrant and different residential areas, as well as the thriving business hubs of North Sydney, St Leonards, Chatswood and Lane Cove.

While most people volunteer without expecting accolades it is important that we acknowledge those who really are the glue that holds our communities together. We all face the pressures of work and many also have family responsibilities. In this busy world it is important that we take time out to think of others, to contribute to those organisations that are protecting our suburbs and to the groups that are bringing people together. Here on the lower north shore thousands are doing just that.

The North Sydney Community Awards recognise those organisations and individuals who contribute to our area.

I would encourage you to nominate that special person or group helping others.

North Sydney Community Award Open to any individual who lives in the local area or works for a North Sydney based community organisation. Nominees should be individuals who make an outstanding contribution to: assisting the local community; helping fellow residents; protecting our local environment and heritage; or supporting the development of local businesses. Nominees may either be volunteers or paid employees who make a contribution beyond the call of duty.

North Sydney Young Person of the Year Recognises outstanding service to the community over an extended period by a young person up to the age of 25. Nominees may live, work or study in the local area.

North Sydney Older Australian of the Year Recognises outstanding service to the community over an extended period by a person over the age of 65. Nominees may live or work (either professionally or voluntarily) in the local area.

North Sydney Community Group of the Year Open to any local community group that is helping to make our local area a better place.

North Sydney Sports AwardRecognises outstanding sporting performances, achievements and contributions to sporting organisations by local residents. Nominees may be individual sportspeople or those that work behind the scenes to assist local sporting organisations.
