Thanks to the generosity of our uniform shop volunteers, the uniform shop will open on Monday, 29th April between 9:30am and 11:30am for anyone who needs new uniforms. ANZAC Day (25 April) falls in the holidays on the Thursday before school returns. Traditionally we have students march in the community com- memorative march down Auburn Street. If you and your children are free on Anzac Day, please come along and support us in the march. We will meet at the southern end of Auburn St near the traffic lights, between 10:00 am and 10:30 am. The march ends at the memorial in Belmore Park. We are asking everyone to wear summer uniform as it has been quite warm in the last few years and the children become quite hot, walking along the road. Dont forget to wear a school hat. Thank you everyone for supporting the Easter Hat Parade. It is always such a surprise to see how imaginative our students (and their parents) can be. Thank you to the staff who did such a great job organising our parade. Unfortunately Sherpa Kids is closing its doors this Friday for the last time. We will no longer have an after school care program running here at Goul- burn North. There are other programs operating throughout Goulburn, some of which collect stu- dents from North and transport them to the ven- ue. The staff in the office would be happy to help you if you need to make enquiries about where to send your children. Have a great Easter break. I hope you all manage to get a break from your usual routines. Keep safe and we look forward to seeing everyone back for Term 2. Leonie Pearson

This is the last newsletter for Term 1. Don’t forget that school resumes for students on Tuesday, 30th April. Thanks to the generosity of our uniform shop volunteers, the uniform shop will open on Monday, 29th April between 9:30am and 11:30am for anyone who needs new uniforms.

ANZAC Day (25 April) falls in the holidays on the Thursday before school returns. Traditionally we have students march in the community com-memorative march down Auburn Street. Don’t forget to wear a school hat.

Thank you everyone for supporting the Easter Hat Parade. It is always such a surprise to see how imaginative our students (and their parents) can be. Thank you to the staff who did such a great job organising our parade.

Unfortunately Sherpa Kids is closing its doors this Friday for the last time. We will no longer have an after school care program running here at Goul-burn North. Our whole school social skills focus is

right place, right time

Our aim is to encourage respect and co-operation in all

situations within the school, so that we in particular, look after

our belongings.

If we looked after our belongings there would be no lost property

left in the playground. We would put equipment away, back

where it came from, after we had used it.

All our belongings would have our name on them.

At this time of the year the staff at Goulburn North have many discussions about the organisation of

routines and events that run in our school. We make decisions that benefit the students in their ability

to reach expected outcomes. This can be somewhat challenging as we have many valuable pro-

grams to offer however time restrictions can inhibit the implementation of them.

Last year as part of our Positive Behaviour for Learning model we integrated student led PBL lessons

during peer support groups. This program had significant benefits for students as research has prov-

en that students’ learning is enhanced when they are learning alongside and from their peers. We

conducted this program under two models. The first took place as fortnightly lessons and the second

had it reduced to lessons twice a term. The best impact we saw of students embedding the Positive

Behaviour for Learning (PBL) expectations into their behaviour and language was when we conduct-

ed the peer support lessons on a fortnightly basis.

So that the time allocated to teaching the other Key Learning components of the curriculum isn’t im-

pacted by peer support groups. The staff collectively decided that altering our assembly times would

solve this. Starting in Term 2, the K-6 Friday assembly will be conducted on a fortnightly basis with

peer support PBL lessons occurring on the alternate fortnight. We consider this to be the best use of

time for our students.

During Term 1 we look forward to seeing you every week for our Friday assembly and as of Term 2 we will see you on a fortnightly basis. Towards the end of term, we will notify you which fortnight the assemblies will commence on.

Assistant Principals

Ask at the office if you would like a parent package

with more information relating to applying for OC.

Students currently in Year 4 can apply to enrol in the Opportunity Class at

Goulburn West Public School for Year 5 and 6. If you are interested, please

read the information above. Applications are on-line.

On Wednesday Stage 3 had the opportunity to participate in a video conference with the NSW parliament. We had the chance to talk about the lower house and upper houses of par-liament.

We learnt that the lower house had the majority of representatives and the upper house had less.

We had the chance to look at the mace and how they use it. The crown end always points to the government. We learnt about law and how a bill is introduced to parliament. Libby had the chance to ask a question. Her question was “In upper house and lower house are they Liberal and Labor?” and the answer was no, the chamber is made up of many different par-ties.

Olivia had the chance to enter a tongue twister challenge with another school about parlia-ment. We are all thankful for this experience.

Thanks Miss Huntley for setting up this experience!!
