Our club has been deeplyconcerned about the implicationsof parking charges around theSandbanks peninsula and roads

around Evening hill. These restrictions would haveserious consequences for our club, forcingeveryone to purchase a permit for either £110.00for Poole residents or £310.00 for non residents.The committee has made strong representationsto the council  and joined forces with other affectedgroups. This has led to us to form ties with otherharbour users and one outcome is that NHYC  willinvite Hamworthy canoe club for a BBQ with usbeing invited to their new clubhouse.The outcome of the Overview and Scrutinycommittee meeting on Tuesday 24th May was therecommendation that the proposed charges at

Sandbanks, Whitecliffe, and Hamworthy Park bethrown out due to overwhelming public opposition.This is undoubtedly good news for everyone thatuses our beautiful local leisure facilities and mythanks to everyone who has supported this battle.We are not out of the woods yet.

Last minute update

At the Cabinet Committee meeting on June 14th

the decision regarding the whole parking issue wasdeferred for further consideration and thecommittee will be keeping a close eye on furtherdevelopments..

Our new safety boat has arrived, and proved a popularchoice with all that have seen it.We would like to name the vessel, something in keepingwith the club, (ie, not boaty mc boatface), so suggestionsplease!

The Chernobyl Children'sRegatta will soon be here, July23rd. We will be starting at10.00am with speed boat trips,sailing, kayaking and all the

other fun things children love todo.LSS has kindly offered to lend ussome more kayaks, andbuoyancy aids. We have 3speed boats giving trips andthere will be a BBQ, crabbingand a prize raffle.Please come and enjoy the day,join in the fun and make new

friends. Perhaps our youngsterscould learn a few words ofUkrainian!!!!

Prizes for the raffle or donationswould be gratefully received.Please help support thisamazing charity. Remember,the Nuclear disaster atChernobyl happened 30 yearsago, ...........

Chernobyl Children

Due to the I.O.W. Festival happening on theweekend of June 11-12th, I'm going to set anew date for the proposed club rally to "TheFolly" and Yarmouth as I am reliably informedthat the weekend is mayhem on the island.

N.H.Y.C. Weymouth Rally Saturday-Sunday 14 -15 May 2016

Of the original seven boats down to go on this Rally only three madeit eventually. Three dropped out due to prior commitments and onesprang a leak shortly after starting out! Dennis Gosling in “WaterVenture” had to turn back as he was shipping water at an alarmingrate. This turned out to be a faulty gaiter on the sail drive.“Mystique”, “Joy”, and “Karenzi” slipped the moorings at 08.30 andsailed, together for the most part, in a fresh N.Easterly, and had a verygood passage as far as half a mile west of Durdle Door. After this thewind dropped away, and with the scent of a pint of bitter wafting acrossWeymouth Bay, it was time to start engines.After being guided to our berths by a very helpful member of staff from the harbour office, we tooka leisurely stroll to Wetherspoons, whereupon we were met by a “Hen Night”, with ladies carrying

an inflatable model dressed as a French Maid,very nice, sort of! And a group of middle-agedmen, one with a Mohican, behaving like 18 yearolds, and very noisy. Welcome To Weybiza!We found a very nice and reasonably quiet pubto eat in and finished off the evening aboard“Karenzi” having a nightcap, and turned in for agood night’s sleep. Then at 4am the middle-agedWetherspooners serenaded the quay side withsome unknown ditties. Eventually the most stoicof revelers has to go home, or pass out, so all wasquiet for the rest of the night.After much tea and a bacon butty each we set offhome. The very light early morning airs meant

that once again we found ourselves motoring across Weymouth Bay. At about the same point thatwe were becalmed on Saturday the wind came up from the Southwest and up went the sails for agood, becoming very good, sail home. We arrived back on the moorings around 3pm. All in all agood weekend away for Richard in “Mystique”, Stuart in “Joy” and Peter, James and Rebecca in“Karenzi”.

OK, so you have seen this alreadybut a timely reminder

Have you ever wonderedwhy me? I do from time totime, but then I discovered there isno point sitting and moaning, justget on and enjoy the fun. Learn to laugh atyourself.

Having only just got over the embarrassment of having the Lifeboat come out to me, (see last month’s newsletter)the following week was another fishing trip. Having moored up I was trying to put the anti-seagull flags up. I reallyhave no idea what happened, if I slipped, if the boat rocked or what but I found myself descending rapidly intoabout 4 ft. of water. I actually thought it funny for a couple of seconds until there was this rushing hissing noise.Yes, I was wearing an auto life jacket!

Having finally fixed the flags, I then took the perilous route back to the club house. I moored the tender and thenclimbed dripping wet onto the jetty. You would think Peter Kay had just finished his act, such was the merrimentcoming from the sundeck. Various bits of advice were offered, suggestion made as to what the Greek or Latincould be for my state of health, Latin definition. VICARUS DAMPUS the same ‘friend’ declared I was a failure inmy walking on water test. Even a request for a second performance! I really did think it was all funny, (except forrearming the life jacket.) It was only then I realised I had come to the club on my motorbike… Oh a chilly ridehome.

I’m writing this in a friend’s house in Holland but before leaving I managed to get out early on the Saturday. Niceday, quick ride out to Poole Patch (well as quick as Rafiki ever goes), and a spot of fishing. What day was it?Poole Regatta Saturday. Why is it that I appear to look anything like a buoy? Happily sitting there at anchor whenit seemed that most yachts were using me as a turning point. For a moment I thought I was going to be joined by

six ladies. They were all sitting on the side bit or whatever yachties call it,dangling their legs over the side. If the yacht had come any closer theycould have easily joined me. In the end I gave up fishing there and leftthem to their own devices. If they were looking to turn by the idiot in thattub with no sails, tough, I got miles out of their way.

Holland a place forBoating of all kinds

We (Maureen and me) have enjoyed a number of visits to thislovely country. This time it was just me with a hope of some goodsailing. Thought Iwould share this though as it is a country close enough for a shortbreak and where it is quite easy to hire all kinds of boats. ALSO aplace where there are lots of boats for sale and well worth a look ifyou are in the market for one. We go to the north of the country,

Friesland. You may well have seen thatflag on Rafiki in the past. It has a specialmeaning for me. Talk to me or even betterArjen Schipmolder, a club member.

Why Me ?

NHYC HarbourTreasure Hunt.June 5th 2016.

Eight skippers and their eagle-eyed crews,

with the exception of brave FredCottee who decided to tackle theevent single-handed, gatheredtogether just before 1100hrs forthe pre-hunt briefing.

The weather and sea conditionswere specially chosen by theorganisers Paul Harris and EricTripp and a good time was hadby all.

Food was ably organised andserved by Gill Tripp with baconsandwiches in the morning anda tasty buffet after thepresentation of the trophy.

All but one boat returned on timeand some anxious moments passed wonderingwhere the eighth boat had foundered. Happily itappeared about 30 minutes after thepresentation.

The eventual winner with an impressive 23 pointsout of a possible 25 points was Peter Edginton

and his crew on “Marie Louise”. (For the secondyear running!)Second was AlanHayes on“Winterlin”, andthird was Craig(Chewey) Sherrellon “Micawber”.

Peter wasawarded theNHYC Treasure

Hunt trophy by Paul Harris. Itwill be suitably inscribed.

Peter has been reminded that thewinner is expected to organise nextyear’s event.
