On June 1, 2014, the Cystic Fibrosis Walk was held at

Foley Square Park. It was a really fun day where everyone got to

enjoy themselves and meet new people, especially the children! We

were separated into two groups, the cheerleading squad and the

Kids Korner team. Personally, I had a wonderful time because I was

at the Kids Korner and I got to play with a lot of children. They were

adorable! It was nice to see them enjoy themselves and play with

one another. There were fun games for the kids to preoccupy

themselves when they got bored, and of course we got to play it

too. We all got free T-shirts, Arizona hats, pens and key chains, (lots

of free stuff), and even free food was provided for us. Oh, and you

can't forget the Zumba dancing! Yeah, that was definitely

interesting and funny. Even though it was tiring at the end, it was

worth all the time and effort for this amazing event.

On Sunday June 8th, I participated in the Puerto

Rican Day Parade. It was not only an educational experience,

but also an enjoyable one. We first met up at Marriot Marquis

Hotel. There we met a fellow volunteer from Bryant High school

and many other older volunteers. We then received a huge

selection of breakfast pastries and snacks. They even gave a

free t-shirt and a pen made out of recycled material. Yay! I still

have it! Afterwards we walked in the parade, and we were

reasonable for picking up recyclables. Many people cheered

for us. It was awesome. We got free pizza and lots of food like

icies. It was genuinely a fun experience and would like to go

again.

June 14th was the day of the Taiwan Volunteer Appreciation

Street Food Party; it took place in Taiwan Union Christian Church,

Queens. The party started at 12pm, but I arrived at 12:15pm. I was

having trouble finding the place, so I called my key club

president, Shanjida. We were able to go to the party because we

volunteered for Passport to Taiwan. Only three people showed up

from LaGuardia Key Club because some of them were not able

to go because they did not volunteer for Passport to Taiwan. But I

am sure, that the people who didn’t volunteer for passport to

Taiwan regret it.

When I arrived, everyone was already eating. They were

making everything that they sold during Passport to Taiwan. They

made oyster omelet, shaved ice, iced tea, fish ball soup,

sausage, Dracula Popsicles, and a lot more. There was also a

raffle, I won a CD. Heidy Cordero also went and she won a

keychain. It was a very great experience and I don’t regret

volunteering for Passport to Taiwan.

On June 15th, 2014, Bronx Science high school held a

movie fundraiser to see The Fault in Our Stars. Everyone knows

about this outstanding film, based on a novel written by John

green. The movie was a perfect mix of comedy and romance.

It was both an eye opener and an insightful movie to watch. In

general, it is known that the movie can't compared to the

book, but this film did not disappoint. The fundraiser went very

smoothly. There was popcorn and soda provided, and the

opportunity to meet other key clubbers from other schools.

Overall, it was a great movie to watch, as well as giving

support to LaGuardia alumni, Ansel Elgort!

"I define Vickie Yuen as dedicated,

always present and ready to volunteer.

Her dedication for Key Club, from what

i see is enormous. She is always present

for events and meetings. As well as a

person, she is outgoing and always

willing to interact with her fellow

members. Her positive attitude gives

other members the ability to try harder

and commit themselves more to Key

Club. I definitely can see Vickie as an

honorary member, but i can also see

her in a higher position in the future.

Vickie overall knows how to conduct

herself in events and is able to make

time to attend almost every event;

which is phenomenal. I hope she

continues to strive in Key Club, and

aims to reach for upper level positions!“

-Erik Ortega, Bulletin Editor, LaGuardia

Key Club

“Vickie has shown an outstanding

amount of dedication towards Key

Club. As I got to know her, I realized

she had other obligations she had to

take care of, but it seemed to me

that she still always had time for Key

Club. She once told me that she

even regretted the lack of effort she

put towards the club in the past. She

truly wanted to do her best for the

club moving forward. Vickie is

someone I can see becoming a

model key clubber in the future, and

I put my faith in the fact that she will

continue to put in her best effort for

the club.”

-Shanjida Kibria, President,

LaGuardia Key Club

Maya is the founder of an organization called Maya’s Hope that LaGuardia Key Club has been closely

associated with for quite some time. She has recently entered her new office and is wondering if anyone

would like to intern at her office. The job would consist of doing simple office work and glitter cards. Often

your tasks will be assigned to you based on your strengths. The times are very flexible, but the number of

people in her office at the same time is limited, so if you are interested please fill out the form so we can

schedule how you will work with her. You will also be given credit for doing the work by Maya herself,

outside of Key Club. If you are interested, please sign up on the link below. The address of her office is 31 W

34th st. between 5th & 6th ave. on the 7th floor in room 7065.
