MAY I INTRODUCE TO YOU, JESUS? John 1:1-5
Ever meet someone through a mutual friend? Sometimes we will be introduced to someone before we meet them by another person we both know. Usually we receive an early introduction such as this because the
person we meet has some mutual interest or is able to help us in some way. John the apostle gives us an early introduction to Jesus in the first five verses of his gospel account.
He tells us that Jesus is God. He is not an ordinary human like the rest of us. He is God, Immanuel. This is significant because God has nev-er come to earth in physical form like this before. It is even beyond what
the mythical gods of the Greeks would consider. But Jesus is indeed God made manifest in the flesh as a human.
He tells us that Jesus gives life to us. He breathed life into Adam in the Garden to begin this physical journey on which we are now traveling. That is important because He promises eternal life. If he had no power over the physical, we would expect no power over the spiritual. But Jesus
is indeed life for everyone. He also shares with us that Jesus is the light in the dark places of
earth. Not a light for the physical eyes but for the spiritual eyes of the heart. Jesus shines the light of truth to drive out the darkness of evil and deception of the devil. Darkness abounds in the world but cannot over-power the light. Jesus is the light of life.
Jesus is a unique individual. John introduces us to Him because we
have mutual interests, our salvation. And because Jesus is the only one that can help us with our problem, sin. Won't you come to know Him through the introduction of the Bible and let Him help you with your sin by His guidance in the Bible?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Criticism and the Beehive
It is said that someone reported to Abraham Lincoln that Edwin Stanton, one of the President’s cabinet members, had referred to him as a fool. Mr. Lincoln replied, “Well, I must check into that, for I have found that he is usually correct in his judgments.” This indicated President Lincoln’s great capacity to handle criticism. In-stead of returning criticism for the insult, President Lincoln forgave Stanton. The end result is that Edwin Stanton became one of Lincoln’s closes allies. Isn’t it amazing how prone to criticism we human beings are? We can find an excuse or reason to gripe about almost anything! If you pick up a daily newspaper, you will read of multiple stories of unfair and often untrue criticism, and often outright slander. We see this harshness among nations, political parties, families, neighbors, etc. In James chapter 4, we observe that James not only raises the question of what causes such conflict, but he answers the question, giving both the specific causes of the problem and the cure. The Cause, says James, is our conflicting desires—a result of selfishness. When we covet yet not get what we want, the result is unfair criticism, quarreling, bickering and fighting. The Cure, says James, is submitting to God and resisting the Devil. As Christian Gentlemen and Ladies, we need to remember this simple com-mand: “Be ye kind to one another” (Ephesians 4:32). Someone has said: “You catch more bees with honey than vinegar.” Criti-
cism kicks the beehive over.
