HERE COMES 2021
HERE COMES 2021
We often mark the passing of the year by the holidays we enjoy. Easter, July 4, and so on, we look forward to things then they are gone. Many looked forward to Friday, plans were made up to a year in advance (then changed by Covid); excited children struggled to go to sleep Thursday and woke Friday with great excitement. Now that’s over and it’s on to the next one.
The next one is the new year. The holiday, New Year’s Day, is just one day full of pork and peas, and whatever other traditions fill your day. What it represents to many is a day to start over, an op-portunity to right some wrongs and correct some bad decisions or habits. That’s a great idea but just being a new day or a new year is not often motivation enough to make a lasting change. What’s my why? Why am I planning to make this change that will affect every-thing I do in life for the rest of my life?
It should start with the hope of heaven. Paul said that bodily exercise profits little but godliness has value in all things (1 Timothy 4:8). The why should include love for God and for fellow man be-cause on these things hang all the law and profits and any other mo-tive is useless (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). 2021 becomes a better year than any year previous when we remember that our spiritual life is of greater importance than our physical and that we must grow in love for God and fellow man if we hope to have a greater purpose. Here comes 2021, are you ready?

A Prayer For The New Year
A whole new year is mine today; May I be wiser, Lord, I pray,
To strengthen friendships old and true And learn to cherish new ones too.
To keep on learning and to grow A little deeper as I go.
To cast aside each grudge and grief, And hold fast to a firm belief
That life is joyous, gracious, good, When lived in terms of brotherhood.

I Am The New Year
I AM THE NEW YEAR. I am unused, unspotted, without blemish. I stretch be-
fore you three hundred and sixty-five days long. I will present each day in its
turn, a new leaf in the book of life for you to place upon it your imprint.
I AM THE NEW YEAR. Each hour of every day, I will give you sixty minutes that
have never known the use of man. White and pure I present them. It remains for
you to fill them with sixty jeweled seconds of love, hope, endeavor, patience and
trust in God.
I AM THE NEW YEAR. I am coming – but once past, I can never be recalled.
Make me your best! Selected
