About the awards
The Australian Government Digital Awards
The Australian Government Digital Awards were formerly the Australian Government ICT Awards. They have been revamped by the Digital Transformation Agency to acknowledge the wide range of approaches and technological uses in digital transformation.
The ceremony will be held on Thursday 3 October at the National Convention Centre Canberra.
The purpose of the awardsThe awards will recognise excellence in government digital products, services, partnerships and individuals. Nominations will be sought from across federal, state, territory or local government, as well as from industry where appropriate.
Important dates
Wednesday 24 July – Nominations open
Friday 16 August – Nominations close
Wednesday 11 September – Finalists announced
Thursday 3 October – Ceremony held

Award categories and judging criteriaThere are 9 awards you can nominate for under Outstanding Digital Service, Excellence in Partnership and Individual Professional Contribution. The awards are:
Category 1: Outstanding Digital Service

Category 2: Excellence in Partnership

1a) Outstanding digital service – product or service
The winner of this category will have created an innovative product or service that demonstrably improves the end user experience. The process for developing the product or service will have been user-focused and will have followed appropriate government and industry standards and protocols.

3. Outcome improves the customer experience

1b) Outstanding digital service – platform
The platform should make it easier to deliver agency services and easier to access by users. The process for developing the platform will have been user-focussed and followed appropriate government and industry standards and protocols.

1. Openness of platform design
2. Richness of platform ecosystem
3. Reusability of platform for multiple purposes and/or agencies
General Criteria
4. Demonstrated tangible benefits to users5. Adopted industry and government standards and protocols
1c) Outstanding digital service – emerging technologyThe winner of this category will have created an innovative product or service that has used emerging technology to demonstrably improve the delivery of the product or service. The process for developing the product or service will have followed appropriate government and industry standards and protocols.

1. Developed based on user needs
2. Use of emerging technology
3. Reusability of the emerging technology

1d) Outstanding digital service – methodology or approach
The product or service will have gone through an innovative process and have been designed in partnership with stakeholders and the end user. The process for developing the product or service will have followed appropriate government and industry standards and protocols.
Category criteria
1. Use of innovative methodology throughout the process of designing and
delivering the product or service
2. Reusability of the methodology
General Criteria
3. Demonstrated tangible benefits to users4. Adopted industry and government standards and protocols
2a) Excellence in partnership – government-industryThe partnership should show:
an understanding of the user needs and why the partnership was formed
a focus on design, development and delivery of the product or service
how government delivered a stronger product or service through collaboration with industry
Category criteria
1. Ability of partnership to address user needs
2. Outcome delivered through the partnership
3. Integration of partners to deliver outcomes
General Criteria

2b) Excellence in partnership – multi-agency
The partnership should show:
an understanding of the user needs and why the partnership was formed
a focus on design, development and delivery of the product or service
how government delivered a stronger product or service, through multi-agency collaboration
Category criteria
1. Ability of partnership to address user needs
2. Outcome delivered through the partnership
3. Integration of partners to deliver outcomes
General Criteria
4. Demonstrated tangible benefits to users5. Adopted industry and government standards and protocols
3a) Digital Professional of the YearAwarded to a government employee with more than 3 years of experience in a digital role
The winner of this award will be someone who follows appropriate government or industry standard in their work and shows a commitment to digital transformation. They perform their role as a member of a multi-disciplinary team with excellence as recognised by their peers. They also show leadership within and beyond their team.
Entry criteria
1. More than 3 years’ experience in a digital role in government
2. Nominated by a colleague or sponsor
3. 2 supporting referees

4. Commitment to digital transformation5. Digital leadership within their agency6. Contribution to digital development of industry and government
3b) Digital Emerging Talent of the Year
Awarded to a government employee who has been in a digital role for 3 years or less.
The winner of this award will be someone who follows the appropriate government/industry standard in their work and shows a commitment to digital transformation. They perform their role as a member of a multi-disciplinary team with excellence as recognised by their peers. They also demonstrate initiative beyond their defined role.
Entry criteria
1. 5 years or less experience in a digital role in government
2. Nominated by a colleague or sponsor
3. 2 supporting referees

4. Commitment to digital transformation5. Demonstrates initiative beyond their defined role6. Contribution to digital development of industry and government
3c) Digital Diversity Champion of the YearAwarded to a government employee who has championed diversity within their team and/or agency.
The winner of this award will be someone who follows the appropriate government/industry standard in their work and shows a commitment to digital transformation. They have shown they understand the importance of diversity in ensuring that digital products and services meet user needs as recognised by their peers.

Nomination processYou can enter on our website using the online form. Nominations must be completed by midnight Friday 16 August 2019.
Note you can only nominate for one award per form. If you wish to nominate for other awards, you will need to fill in multiple forms.
Nomination questions
The nomination form will require you to answers to several questions. The questions depend upon the award you are nominating for. There is a strict word limit for each answer, and these are also noted below.
1a) Outstanding digital service – product or service

Terms and conditionsPlease note the following terms and conditions of submitting a nomination:
nominations must be for government digital delivery from Australia only. This includes federal, state/territory and local government. Public/private sector collaborative products will be accepted
only one category can be nominated per form. If you wish to nominate a product/ or service for multiple categories, you will need to fill in multiple forms
submission of a nomination indicates executive approval has been granted prior to submission
incomplete nominations or nominations that do not meet the word limits will not be considered for judging
the judging panel reserves the right to not declare finalists or a winner if they believe nominations are not of a sufficient standard to be thus recognised

Judging processThere will be 2 rounds of judging.
For round 1 judging
panels will be set up for each category
nominations will be divided amongst judges, with a minimum of 3 panellists for each nomination
judges will score the nominations according to the judging criteria
based on scores, the top 5-8 entries will be declared the shortlist
judges will be recruited via an open call of digital/ICT practitioners
For round 2 judging
there will be 1 panel – judges will consider all the shortlisted nominees
judges will come together to discuss and decide the finalists and the winner
