Nowthatintroductionsareoutoftheway,I’mafraidIwouldrathergivemy

speechentirelyinEnglish.Besides,Googletranslateonlyworkssofast.

Iwouldliketotellyouastory.Iwasinvolvedwithboyscoutssincetheageof8,

andIstillam.Theorganizationhasmanydedicatedandinspiringpeoplewho

becamealargepartofmylifeasIworkedmywaythroughtotherankofEagle.A

fewyearsago,whenIwastheseniorpatrolleaderofthetroop,Imetayoung

scout,whoI’llcallAlex.

AlexwasayoungscoutwithADHD.Hewasoftenhorsingaroundandwhathe

attemptedusuallyendedinamess.Alexwouldteasetheotherscouts,and

bothertheadults.Forme,astheseniorpatrolleader,andtheguywhohadto

makesurepeoplestayedontask,Alexwasahandful.Butdespitethetroublehe

caused,Alexnevergotmuchrealattentionforit.Fewpeopletookthetimeneededtolistentohim.Alexwouldbeactivelyignoredbymanyofthescouts

andleadersbecausetheyknewhehadADHD,andtheyjustdidn’tknowhowto

dealwithhim.Alexmadeafewfriends,butnotthatmany.Itwasnotforlackof

trying.TheproblemwiththissituationwasthatAlexfeltotherswerenot

hearinghim.Unfortunately,hewasfrequentlyright.Hewastalkedtomorethanlistenedto.Hefeltlikeachild.

Until,oneluckyday,Alexshowedupforthepatrolleaderelections,whenfew

otherscoutsdid.Heranforapatrolleaderposition.Ofhisfewfriendsthatwere

there,theyallvotedforhim,andhewon.Despitethefactthatsomeofhisfellow

scoutswouldsayhewasdoingthingswrong,thathewastoocrazytobea

leader,hesucceeded.Fromthatdayon,Alexbecameadifferentpersonwhenhe

walkedintothescouthouse.Hewasmuchmorepoliteandconfident,heknewwhathewastalkingabout.Hecameintothescouthouseandgotthingsdone,hehelpedotherscoutswiththingstheyneededhelpwith,andhetaughtlessonsto

thenewerandyoungerscouts.Toallthosekidsandadultswhoignoredhim

before,hesuddenlywasaperson.Hehadavoice.Hecounted.AndIbelieveIsawinthatscoutachange–AlexwasstillaboywithADHD,noquestionaboutit,but

hehadresponsibilitynow,andheworeitproudly.Allbecauseoneluckyday,thetroopfinallygavehimthevoicehedeserved.

Ashumanbeings,wewanttohaveourvoicesheard.Wewanttobeapartofthe

largercommunity.Thisiswhyournationwasfounded,andtheprincipleitwas

foundedon:GovernmentBYthepeople.Ourpredecessorsfoughtfortherighttohaveasayintheirgovernment,tohaveavoice.Taxationwithoutrepresentation

istyranny.Wedonotwantotherscontrollingthefinerdetailsofourlives.That

simpleideastartedarevolution,andacountry-thelikesofwhichthisworldhad

notyetseen.

WhenAlexwasempowered,whenhefoundavoiceforhimself,awaytoparticipateandbeapartofthecommunity,hebecameanewanddifferent

person.Thisistrueofallpeople.Ifyouempowertheperson,ifyougivethema

voice,theywillcreatesomethingtrulygreat.Oneofthepotentialpitfallsofour

government,though,isthatwehaverepresentativeswhooccasionallythinkthey

areabovethemasses,thattheyknowwhatisbestforthepeopleandthattheywilldecidewhatourvoiceshouldbe.

Wethepeople,havehadourvoicetakenaway,andnotbysomeforeignpower,

butbyelectedofficialswhoprobablymeanwell;peoplewhothinkthatthey

honestlyhavethesolutiontoourproblems.Thepresident,claimingthatnational

securityisparamount,theNSA,sayingthatexternalthreatsstillexist,our

currentgovernor,claimingthathispolicieswillhelpjobgrowth.Atitsmost

fundamentallevel,ourmoderngovernmentisstillmadeupofpeoplewho–

hopefully–wanttohelpus.Buttheyhavealreadybetrayedthosewhothey

wouldseektohelp.TherecentscandalswithPRISMandtheNSAhaveonly

servedtohighlightthatourgovernmenthasforgottenhowtotrustitsownpeople.Thesecrecywithwhichourgovernorandthestatelegislaturehold

caucuses,theliesthattheytellus,thebrokenpromises.And,inreturn,wethe

peoplehaveforgottenhowtotrusttheirgovernment.

Ifwedonotknowwhatishappeninginourgovernment,ifwecannotfindoutwhatishappening,thenourvoiceisabsolutelymeaningless.Thereisthroughout

thepeopleofthiscountryafeelingthatourvoicefallsshort,thatthetwoparty

systemiscorrupt,andthatwecannotdoanythingtostopit.Apathyand

disappointmentinournationaretheonlythingsthatagovernmentsuchasours

inspires.

WhenIspeaktomyfriendsaboutpolitics,thereisonerefrainthatIhearover

andover:Wearefedup.Fedupwithtrustinginatwopartysystemwhichmakessoverymanypromises,anddeliversonsofew.Fedupwithasystemthatreeksofcorruption,asystemwherepoliticalscandalsarenormal,andcorporate

interestsalwayscomefirst.Ihaveseeninsomanypeoplethisdisgustofmodern

politics.Butitdoesnothavetobethisway.Thiscity,thisstate,wereachedourgoldenageinanerawhentrust,honesty,andface-to-facepoliticaldiscussion

werethewayofthepeople,andthewayoftheparties.

Andwhatinspiredthathonesty?Athirdparty.

Thereisonewonderfulthingaboutthiswholesituationwefindourselvesin.We

havehope,andwehavetheconstitution–somethingwhichistoooftenignored,Imightadd.Thisconstitution,ourconstitution,doesnotsaythatonlytwo

partiesmayrule,doesnotsaythatthiscountryisanaristocracyoftheelite–no.

Ourconstitutionsaysthatthisisagovernmentthatrepresentsandlistenstothe

voiceofthepeople–thisisarepublic.Andasmembersofthatrepublic,wemust

demandthatourvoicesbeheard–Itisourright.

Manyofyouheremaythinkthatthirdpartieswillnevergetofftheground–that

wecannevermakeadifferenceinacountrywheremoneyistheruleoftheland,

andwherelargerpartieshaveaccesstoalloftheresources.

Turningawayfromthepoliticalscenebecauseyouarefedupwithitisunderstandable,butpoliticswillneverturnawayfromyou.Everydecisionmade

inthosesecretmeetingsandcourtschangesthewaywefunctioninsociety.So

insteadoflettingthetwopartysystemtakeourlives,ourfortune,andoursacred

honorbythecollarandthrowittotheground,weneedtostandandfight!We,

asthepeopleneedtosayno,nowewillnotbetrampled.Notthistime.

Wecanmakeourvoiceheardagain.

Lookingtothefuture,Iwantasmuchasanyofyoutoseeabrighterdayaheadof

us.Andthereisone–butitslightisgrowingdim.I’mnotpredictingdoomsday,

noradystopianvisionofourworld.ButIwantsomethingbetterthanthe

secrecyandlieswearewitnesstonow.Ilookforwardtoadaywherethetrustbetweenthepeopleandtheleadersofthisstateandofthisnationisre-

established.Iwantmychildrensomedaytoliveandgrowupinastateand

nationwheretheydon’thavetoworryaboutasurveillancedronelookingin

theirwindows.Iwantaworldwheremychildrencannotbebombedifforsome

reasonIamlabeledathreattoournation.Aworldwheremychildrenwillnotbeextraditedfortellingthetruth,anationwheregovernmentisthepart-timejobof

thepeople,notthefull-timejobofthelandedelite.Therearesomethingsin

societythatarenotmeanttobespecialized.Governmentshouldbeoneofthem.

Icontendthatthetwopartysystemisfartoocorrupttohearourvoices.But

again,ourconstitutiondoesnotdemandatwopartysystem.Weasapeople

havedonethisbefore,andcandoitagain.Wecanmakeourvoiceheard.Wecanriseupandchangethetwopartysystem,wecanbecomethecatalystthatstartstherevolution.Youwantchange?Well,Iamtellingyounowthatchangeisnot

goingtocomeintheformofaDemocratoraRepublican.Theyhaveproventhat

toustimeandagain.Change,then,hastocomeintheformofathirdparty.Itistimetoletthethird

partiesfixthismess.ItistimeforthePiratePartytotakeastand.Onceyouempowerthepeople,theworldtheycreatewillbetrulygreat.Thisiswhatthe

PiratePartyseekstodo,andthisiswhatIwillseektodoasyourcandidatefor

governorofWisconsin.Thankyouforyourtime.
