Nokia Sync GuideIntroduction
Today we are virtually handicapped if we lose our phones. Andthis feeling is not just because we have lost our phone butmore importantly we have lost our entire contacts. Their emailaddresses, their phone numbers and other important things.Here is a quick guide that will keep your contacts safe on yourPC. Whats more, you can edit your contacts details on the PC(using the full key board!) and reverse synchronize on yourmobile device.
Requirement
Hardware: Nokia Phone, Handset to PC connectivity device(Data cable or Bluetooth)
Software: Nokia PC suite (available freely over the net),Microsoft Outlook 2003 or above
Procedure
(Click on any step or scroll down for detailed procedure)This tutorial is written taking into account that you are a firsttime user of Microsoft outlook and Nokia PC suite. If you have
used either of them before then you may to modify a few steps.
1. Start Microsoft outlook2. Install PC Suite3. Connect your phone to the PC suite
i. If you use Bluetoothii.If you use Data Cable
4. Start Synchronization5. View / Add / Edit your data in Microsoft Outlook6. A. Reverse Synchronization (If and when required)

1. Start Microsoft outlooka. Install Microsoft Outlook.
b. Post that you need to start Microsoft Outlook at leastonce so that outlook can make the default folders.
c. You may skip the step of email setup.i.by opting for No email setupii.Check (tick) Continue Without email support
d. Check if the folders of contacts have been made atthe left hand corner

e. Close Microsoft outlook.
2. Install PC Suite
a. Double Click on Nokia PC suites exe file and install itfollowing the instructions. (You may just click next 5times)

3. Connect your phone to the PC suitea. After installation a window to add your phone will
appear (Or else you may go to Nokia PCSuite>Settings>Add more Phones)

b. Select the appropriate connection type ( Blue toothor cable)
i.If you use Bluetooth On phone
Switch Bluetooth on and select shown to allmode
Make note of your mobiles Bluetooth name
On Computer
Once you select Bluetooth connection type, yourcomputer will search for all Bluetooth devices inrange.
From the list select your device and say next.

You will then be prompted for a pass code Enter any numeric passcode on computer and
then on mobile device, when prompted
i.If you use Data CableAttach you data cable to the USB port and toyour phone then
On phone
Select the PC Suite Mode when prompted.

If you are not prompted then go to Tools>Data Cable>Ask on connection
On Computer
Your phone will be detected by computers. It willinstall 3 drivers, if you are connecting for thefirst time.
Post that PC Suite will detect the phoneautomatically.
If it does not then,The go to step 3a and select Cable Connection

1. Start Synchronization
a. Start the Synchronization utility in the PC suitewindow
b. Once the new screen opens, select the Synchronizenow icon on the right hand top corner.
c. Select the program as Microsoft outlook.

d. Select items that you wish to synchronize on your
computer
e. Keep on pressing next ( for advance users Readinstructions and select as per convenience)

f. Your data is now synchronized in Microsoft outlook

2. View / Add / Edit your data in Microsoft
Outlooka. Open Outlook, to check if your data is synchronized
b. Go to Contacts on left hand corner ( Depending onyour selection in step 4d to 4f you will be able seemore data like calendar, to do list et. al)If you see your data here, then Cheers! The job isdone
c. You may add/edit your contact details on computer
using outlook
3.A. Reverse Synchronization (If and when
required)a. Repeat step 4a & 4b (You may use this step post
editing and for future updated backup)- Or -

1. Known Limitations
a. Only one mobile field is accepted by Outlook. Henceif you have more than one mobile number for one
contact then others will not be accepted in backup.
You will have to manually change them to other fields
like other / car phone et al. If you wish to take their
back up.
b. Manually edited or added labels are lost
c. This procedure is only for Nokia. For other brands a
similar logic based approach may be used. Specialcare of synchronization directionshould be made faling which all contacts and other
details may be lost.d. You are requested to first use this procedure with
less important data, master the procedure and then
use it on important data.
