Dear Friends and Neighbors,

On August 16th a catastrophic storm bringing with it torrential rain and flooding. Tredyffrin and Radnor Townships

declared a disaster emergency. The flooding forced the King of Prussia Mall and Gateway Shopping Center to close

for several days. Trader Joe’s will be closed for several weeks due to the flooding.

Here in Old Forge Crossing, several residents in Settlers Mews had their units flooded as a result of the storm. The

Board and Management are working with engineers to best determine how we can combat this type of flooding in our

community. The Board also formed a drainage subcommittee to look into the flooding and drainage. Under consid-

eration is the construction of a wall at the edge of our property along parts of Upper Drive. In addition, our Legal

Counsel is seeking a remedy with PECO and/or Tredyffrin Township on how to address the situation of the land be-

yond the Old Forge Crossing boundaries.

On August 20th, several Old Forge Crossing residents, and residents from our area who were affected by flooding,

attended the Township Supervisors Meeting to request the Supervisors consider looking at this issue. While they

were sympathetic, there was no commitment from the Supervisors they will take up the issue for consideration.

When something like this happens, it affects all the residents in our community. We are working to address this is-

sue but the cause of the flooding in our area needs to be reviewed and addressed by the Township. If you would like

to contact Township Supervisors to request they look into this issue, you can locate their information on the Town-

ship’s website at the http://www.tredyffrin.org/boards/board-of-supervisors . There is a link to a form that you can use

to contact the Supervisors. Also, if you are not signed up for ReadyChesco, Chester County’s official source for

emergency information and government notifications, I recommend signing up. You can sign up on their website at

https://www.readychesco.org/.

On to other news in our community. The last several weeks have been a

busy time at OFC! The last phase of the paving project and pond dredging

have been completed. During the dredging of the pond, 1,000 yards of sedi-

ment was removed. This is 50 truckloads! In the beginning of September,

painting of five buildings will commence. If your building is on the list, please

review the information that was included in the Painting Notice that was dis-

tributed.

The summer is winding down and fall will be here before we know it! Fall

officially begins September 22nd. The Social Committee will host a Labor

Day Cookout on September 1st. Come on out to meet and mingle with your

neighbors.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

With warmest regards,

Sharon Richards

TOWNWATCH By Mike Feagley

On the Township Town Watch and Crime Scenes

I think this is worth another mention, the Tredyffrin Township Police will be offering the Citizens Police Academy, starting on September 19th. The Academy will run for 11 weeks, and will be held at the Township Building at 1100 Duportail Road, on Wednesdays from 7 to 9. It is open to all residents, with a vetting process in place for all applicants, and a $50.00 fee. Contact Town Watch Director, Mike Feagley (610-505-5579) or (610-254-9843) for an application. The incidence of crime locally is still going on at the same places, Trader Joes, Panera Bread, Lifetime Fitness, grocery stores, etc. WE ARE THE ONLY ONES who can slow this down. Be mindful or your surroundings, and please do not leave your possessions unattended.

At Old Forge Crossing

Since this is the start of the school season, there will be more children out an about , ALL residents should slow down, obey the speed limits and stop at all stop signs, especially since the speed bumps have been removed.(there have been many requests to management and the Board to have the speed bumps rein-stalled). Too many residents have been seen speeding through the complex, this is not safe.

Emergency Plan

The recent heavy rain (4 inches), again resulted in the flooding of several condos on the Upper Drive, this is proof that we need an emergency plan in place as soon as possible. Town Watch could help in responding to these emergencies. My thought is to form a task force to meet this need. I will spearhead this effort and I am asking for volunteers that are willing to help in an emergency situation. No matter what we do to remediate the flooding potential, we get the over the top event, that override our efforts. Please contact me if you are interested in helping your neighbors.

Management Notes September is National Preparedness Month. Take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in your homes, businesses and schools. Think first about the basics of survival—fresh water, food, clean air and warmth, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Ready Campaign. Here are some items recommended for a basic emergency supply kit: • Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation • Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food

• Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for each

• Flashlight and extra batteries • First aid kit • Whistle to signal for help • Dust mask, to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place • Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities • Can opener for food (if kit contains canned food) • Local maps You might consider adding these additional items: • Prescription medications and glasses • Infant formula and diapers • Food and extra water for your pet • Important family documents such as copies of insurance policies, identification and bank account records in

a waterproof, portable container • Cash or traveler’s checks and change • Emergency reference material such as a first aid book or similar information from www.ready.gov • Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person • Complete change of clothing including a long-sleeved shirt, long pants and sturdy shoes. Consider addition-

al clothing if you live in a cold-weather climate. • Household chlorine bleach and medicine dropper. When diluted nine parts to one part water and bleach can

be used as a disinfectant. Or in an emergency, you can use it to treat water by using 16 drops of regular household liquid bleach per gallon of water. Do not use scented, color safe or bleaches with added cleaners.

• Fire extinguisher • Personal hygiene items • Paper cups, plates and towels and plastic utensils • Paper and pencils • Books, games, puzzles and other activities for adults and children. • For more information, visit www.ready.gov
