For the attention of the Examinations Officer and Heads of Music Departments

Dear Sir/Madam

WJEC: GCE AS Music 2660U2 Unit 2 Composing

Submission of assessments

WJEC now has the facility for electronic submissions of candidates' work via our SecureAssess platform. All work for this unit must be submitted via this platform.

In order to issue a username and password for SecureAssess please send the full name and email address of the teacher uploading the assessments to [email protected] by Friday 31stMarch. Please ensure the centre number is included in the email.

In SecureAssess, each candidate is allocated a unique key code. The supervising teacher will also be allocated an individual key code in order to submit the attendance register and authentication documentation. Key codes for your candidates and the supervising teacher should appear in the invigilation tab of SecureAssess. If they do not appear, or if any are missing, please contact [email protected]

Supervising teachers must ensure that all candidates' submissions are uploaded to secureassess. They must either upload the submissions themselves or it is also permissible to give candidates access to their own individual key codes in order to upload their work themselves as long as it is then checked by the teacher. Candidates are not permitted to give their key code to anyone else. It is the teacher's responsibility to authenticate the whole submission using their own individual key code. The upload window will open on Monday 24th April and all portfolios should be uploaded on or before 15th May 2017.

Submission requirements

Candidates must complete two compositions for this unit, one in response to a brief set by WJEC. For the second composition learners set their own brief. Teachers are reminded to check the information provided in the specification regarding the requirements of Unit 2.The following must be submitted for each composition:

a recording of the composition, in mp3 or wav format, however, mp3 is preferred. a notated score or a detailed written description of the composition with a chordal and

melodic outline. Documents can be accepted in PDF, Word or any other format currently compatible with Microsoft Office 2010.

Prior to uploading candidates’ work

• Log in to SecureAssess https://wjec.secureassess.co.uk and navigate to the Invigilation tab.

• Check that all of your candidates’ key codes are listed. If you are submitting work in more than one subject, filter for the qualification you are interested in by clicking the small arrow at the top of qualification column and selecting the appropriate qualification.

• Ensure that the files you are going to upload are the correct files for each candidate. You will, however, be able to change the files, prior to submission, if the wrong file has been uploaded by mistake.

Uploading a candidate’s work

• In a new web browser window go to:

• Enter the Key code for the candidate, taken from the Invigilation tab, and then confirm the candidate’s details.

• You may also be required to enter the PIN associated with the candidate. Enter this if requested. The PIN is available on the Invigilation tab, next to the candidate's key code.

• You will then be presented with the secure form. Please fill in the required information about the candidate’s work.

• You will also see information about the file types accepted as well as the number and size of files you can upload.

• To upload, click on the ‘Upload’button:

• This will open the Upload Manager window.• Click on the ‘Upload’ button and this will open a file browser window.• Ensure that the correct document type is selected in the file browser window (e.g.

docx, doc, xls, mp3 etc) and then browse for your file.

• Select the file and then click ‘Open’. This will return you to the Upload Manager window, and you should see your file listed. Please note: larger files may take longer to appear in the Upload Manager. Repeat this process if uploading more than one file for the candidate.

Labelling of files

• It is essential that files are clearly named, so that the examiner knows which is the composition composed in response to the WJEC brief. The following conventions must be used when naming files for upload:

Composition 1 AudioComposition 1 Score Composition 2 AudioComposition 2 ScoreComposition log.

• Any additional files uploaded (e.g. screen shots) should be labelled similarly.

Finishing the upload

• When you have completed uploading the candidate’s work, and filled in the necessary details, click the ‘Close’button.

• You will then be presented with this window:

• Close exam and finish later: This closes the form, but does not submit the files to WJEC. This allows you to retrieve this form, by entering the key code again, and to be able to check its contents. Candidates may do this stage themselves.

• Finish exam and Submit answers: This finishes the exam and submits the files to WJEC. If this is selected, you will not be able to retrieve the form again.

In order for the teacher to check the folio before submission, candidates should be instructed to save and close their work, but not to press submit.

This process must be followed for each candidate. You do not have to upload all of the candidates’ work in one go but all work must be uploaded before the end of the submission period.

Authentication

Each candidate's submission must include a non-assessed Composition Log detailing the process of composition. The log must be signed by both the candidate (after completion), and the teacher (at three separate points during the composition process), to authenticate the work. A typed signature is acceptable, and uploading this to the system is the digital equivalent to a hand-written signature. In addition, using their own individual key code, the supervising teacher must upload the attendance register provided by WJEC and a signed declaration form to certify that they have checked that all candidate submissions are complete. Incomplete submissions and absent candidates with unused key codes should be noted on this form.

Templates for the composition log and teacher declaration form can be found on the subject page of the Eduqas website. http://www.wjec.co.uk/qualifications/qualification-resources.html?subject=Music&level=gceAsafrom2016

Yours faithfully
