Editing a recording1. Cutting time from the beginning, middle or end of your

lecture recording.

Sometimes we may want to remove a few minutes of content from the recorded lecture, perhaps to remove the introductory few minutes or perhaps to remove some sensitive content.

Starting from the VLE or Mediasite view of the recordings, click once on the video you wish to edit.

Firstly, you’ll need to identify the content you want to remove. You can watch the video (just click the play button) or click on each slide in the timeline in turn to identify the correct position. Once you have identified the area of content you want to remove, then use your mouse to select that region on the timeline by holding your lefthand mouse button down and dragging over the required region.

To remove the content, simply click the ‘Cut time’ button on the timeline controls. That area has now been flagged to remove but nothing will happen until you ‘Commit’ those changes. The ‘Undo’ button on the toolbar will allow you to remove an edit if you have made an error.

When you are satisfied with the edits you have made, you can review them before you commit changes. If you reposition the playhead (the vertical line on the timeline) to the start of the video and click Play, you should notice that the content you have marked for removal will be skipped over.

Finally, it’s time to commit those changes and create a new edited video. These options are accessed via the Commit option on the toolbar. You’ll notice three options: 1. Commit to current saves changes

over the top of the current video. This is the standard Save option. If you choose this, your unedited video will be lost.

2. Commit to New allows you to save the video to a new version, keeping the unedited version (this is a similar concept to Save As…)

3. Finally, Commit to Existing allows you to save the edited version over the top of another video that already exists.

Here, we’ll choose the Commit to New option.

These changes are queued and will be processed in the next couple of minutes. You can check on the progress of this through the Commit Queue option on the toolbar.

Once the video has been made available, you’ll receive an email confirming this.
