D-T
Keep your students reading over the summer with these fun tools!
Leveled Book ListsComp Questions
Thank you for purchasing my product. I hope you
enjoy using it. I generally make a packet for each student based on their independent reading level. You will see that I have written comprehension questions related to each level based on text complexity. Within each packet, I suggest including a cover page(slide 4), a summer reading log(slide 5 -I usually give them a few copies), a list of suggested titles(slides 6-16, levels D-P), and the questions that correspond with that level (slides 17-37). The fun
summer pages can be used for all levels.
I use this as a summer reading incentive. If the students complete the packet and return it to me in September(for some of you that would be August) they are invited to a special breakfast with linens, fresh flowers, delicious treats, and a gift, usually in the form of a book, during the first few weeks of school. (See photo on next page) I always look forward to this so I can see my former students!! It is a great celebration of reading!! I hope you experience the same success. I would love to hear your feedback!!
** I have included two parent letters based on your preference. Both letters stress the importance of reading over the summer to avoid summer slide, and both explain the packet. One however, mentions the
breakfast incentive, and one does not.
Thanks again!!
I was able to find books for a dollar in the dollar(ish) aisle Target at the end of the summer!

Dear Parents,Your child has worked hard all year in reading
and has made great gains. Often, when children take long breaks from reading, they are likely to fall behind, or experience what we refer to as the “summer slide.” It is strongly encouraged that children set aside time each week to read throughout the summer to avoid the summer slide.
I have prepared a summer reading packet for your child. This packet contains a list of books that are at your child’s independent reading level. Please be advised that this list only serves as a guide in case you are looking for suggestions with regard to books. I have also included reading questions and activities for your child to complete. As an added incentive, I am inviting students who complete the summer packet to a special “Reader’s Breakfast” when students return to school in the fall. I so look forward to seeing my friends after a long and restful summer and catching up with them as they begin a new school year. Please let me know if you have any questions!Fondly,
