WILD about Reading Chadwick Families, This year’s summer reading theme is “Wild About Reading!” As we ready ourselves for the break, my hope is that every child continues to read books that he or she goes wild for this summer. The enclosed reading lists feature books across age-appropriate reading levels and genres, as well as a list of my “Top Ten Picks” for each grade level. You may notice some “wild” titles in this packet—books about animals, jungles, safaris, and other adventures. These selections highlight some of the award-winning books from the past year, classic favorites, and titles chosen specifically with each class in mind. I encourage everyone to read freely this summer—these lists are suggestions, not requirements! I do recommend that every reader keep a reading log (I’ve attached one in this packet). The logs help all of us to remember the books we have enjoyed, and they help each student to see how much he or she has accomplished over the summer. When the new school year begins in September, please remind your child to bring his or her reading log into the library. We will collect reading logs, and each child that has read during the summer will be recognized during library time. Enjoy the summer break, and remember to read wildly! All my best, Ms. Herring
