Washington Lawyers Committee (WLC) Washington, DCPrisoners Project Intern January 2015- April 2015

Primary tasks included advocating for the humane treatment and dignity of all persons convicted or charged with a criminal offense under DC law housed in prisons, jails, or community corrections programs, or living in the community on parole.

Assigned to assist on policies to promote progressive criminal justice reform. My methodologies included investigation activities, which involved interviewing complainants and

witnesses, reviewing documents, preparing memoranda, summarizing facts and analyzing the merits of complaints under relevant civil rights laws.

Through litigation activities including conducting legal research, drafting legal memoranda, pleadings and assisting in preparation for legal proceedings.

Center for Public Policy Alternative (CPPA) Washington, DCWashington Intern January 2015-April 2015

Created Policy dialogues for the think tank in areas related to the political and economic situations in Africa especially in Nigeria.

Developed a plan with incentives that would encourage students in Nigeria to participate in political debates and discourse.

Wrote opinion pieces related to community health development, agricultural practices in Nigeria and education reform in Nigeria.

Attended African related events across Washington and interviewed African scholars on issues affecting the continent.

Student Learning Center (SLC) UC Berkeley, CA Student Athlete Tutor September 2013-December 2014

Tutored student-athletes in political economy, sociology, college writing and other humanities with a success rate of 95% (B+ or better).

Evaluated the writing abilities of the students to determine the best way to assist them. Taught them the importance of class attendance and constructive participation.

Encouraged them to practice healthy and effective study habits, by emphasizing the importance of attending professors office hours, visiting the numerous libraries on campus, summarizing and reflecting on each lecture on a daily basis and eating healthy.

Provided counseling to the student-athletes who are struggling with balancing their rigorous academic and athletic responsibilities. By sharing my experience as a former student-athlete, I was able to instill in my students the confidence and passion needed to navigate through the college experience.

Majority of the students ended up succeeding in their academics and become inspirational figures to their peers.

International Rescue Committee (IRC) Oakland, CAHealth Access Intern August 2013-December 2013

Collaborated with members of the city staff, private organizations and other public agencies to enroll 100+ refugee clients into a suitable health care program.

Gathered and analyzed data for studies and reports on the socio-economic and health history of the refugees, and made recommendations based on findings.

These recommendations were vital in determining the urgency of health care services provided for the refugees

Resolved refugee’s complaints and clarified requests for information and services through online resources and effectively communicated with the refugees about their role should be in order to make the program a success.

Fostered a climate of collaboration between the Hospitals in Oakland, the International Rescue Committee and my clients by accompanying refugees to the hospitals and educating them on the visions of IRC and the health care system that they are guaranteed and their role in making the plan a success.

Organization of African Students (OAS) Berkeley, CAVice President August 2013- December2013

Coordinated an event that sought to unite Africans and African Americans on campus. This included dialogues about race relations between the two groups.

The event was very successful as it helped each group to understand on a deeper level the historical context of their journeys. The message of unity was fostered in that space and it drastically improved the relationship between Africans and African Americans on campus.

Assisted in creating cultural awareness to enhance the image of Africa on campus through African cultural expositions and education.

Black Campus Ministry (BCM)Student Leader August 2011- August 2013

Organized weekly events to cater for the spiritual and social needs of the black community on campus. Assisted students in their quest to understand the Christian faith and its requirements through one-on-

one conversations and weekly bible study. Assisted in hosting 6 gospel shows on campus that highlighted the talents of many students on campus.
