About CDAC


C-DAC: Genesis and History

• Setup in 1988 mission to build indigenous supercomputing capability.

• Started building Indian Language Computing solutions in parallel.

• Subsequently added Education & Training activities to its portfolio.

• In 2002, ER&DCI, NCST and CEDTI were merged with C-DAC.

• With this, several new domains got added to C-DAC’s spectrum of activities such as Professional Electronics, Health Informatics, Cyber Security, Cyber Forensics, e-Governance, etc.

Garuda Grid Computing using NKN


Garuda (Grid Computing) for researchers

• With NKN, C-DAC’s National Grid Computing Initiative - GARUDA acts as a gateway to promote collaboration among individual researchers and engineers.

• NKN, empowers C-DAC’s day to day R&D activities & collaboration through virtual means.


• GARUDA – the national grid computing initiative connects computing resources (over 550TF and 200TB) through NKN. Currently over 300 users from 75 + academic and R&D institutions spread over 30 cities

• Brings together researchers from 13 Virtual Organizations based on research domains

• Established Indian Grid Certificate Authority (IGCA), internationally recognized to address the grid security in India

• Megha is cloud computing platform built on top of the Garuda resources

• A platform where grid and cloud computing converge

PARAM Yuva-II, the latest supercomputer from C-DAC was released by Shri J. Satyanarayana, Secretary, DeitY, MCIT to HPC user community on February 8, 2013.

Peak Performance: 529.74 TF, Sustained Performance: 386.708TF

Ranked 69th in the June ‘13 list of top 500 supercomputers of the world.

About HMIS Application

• C-DAC has developed Hospital Management Information System

• Different models – Conventional stand-alone hospital version

– SaaS (Software as a Service) over the cloud infrastructure.

• Real time HMIS streamlines the treatment flow of patients and simultaneously empowers the hospital's workforce to perform their duties effectively and efficiently.

– A test bed spanning CDAC and BARC with the MPLS VPN tunnels of NKN has been setup for NMS testing activities.
