SPRING 2013A PROJECT THAT BROUGHT TOGETHER THOROUGH STUDY OF PRECEDENTS - NAMELY AALTO’S WORK AND THE MILLER
HOUSE ITSELF IN MY CASE - TO DRAW INSPIRATION AND SPECIFIC CUES FOR A VISITOR CENTER ON THE SITE OF THE MILLER HOUSE - A NATIONAL WORLD HERITAGE SITE. IN MY CASE, I DECIDED TO RETHINK THE APPROACH TO THE HOUSE
AS THE MILLER HOUSE HAS ONLY RECENTLY BEEN OPENED TO VISITORS, AND WAS NEVER MEANT TO HAVE PUBLIC ACCESS. THE “PAVILION” VISITORS CENTER DRAWS OUT THE VISITOR ALONG AN IMPORTANT AXIS TO RE-EXPERIENCE THE
PROJECT. THE FUNCTIONAL GREEN ROOF ALLOWS FOR AN UNBROKEN SITE LINE FROM THE HOUSE AND A NEW SPACE TO PROVIDE FOR EVENTS AT THE SITE. THE ORIGINAL ARCHITECTS - SAARINEN AND KILEY - SET UP A LANGUAGE OF THEIR
OWN THAT IS BROKEN DOWN AND CARRIED THROUGH WITH THE VISITOR CENTER. THE PROJECT HAS A HEAVY EMPHAIS TOWARDS LANDSCAPING, SCREENING OF THE HOUSE AND PARTICULAR VIEWING ANGLES.

FEB 2013OPTIONAL GROUP DESIGN CHARETTE TAKING PLACE OVER 3 DAYS.
MY GROUP DESIGNED AND BUILT ONE OF TWO INFLATABLE PNEUMATICS (NAMED “THE TRIAD”) AND HELPED CONSTRUCT A SECOND. OUR DESIGN WAS A COLLABORATION BASED ON AN AGREED UPON SITE THAT HAD A UNIQUE CONVERSATION BETWEEN TWO LARGE LIVE OAKS
AND THE IDEA OF SMALL MEDIUM LARGE. THE SURFACE WAS MADE “BUMPY” TO DIFFERENTIATE SMOOTH CONNECTION TUBES VERSUS “STAYING SPACE” WHILE TRAVERSING THE PROJECT PLAYS WITH DIFFERENT KINDS OF CONNECTIONS (SUCH AS BEING ABLE TO TRAVERSE
AND TOUCH VERSUS SOLELY AUDIO VISUAL). WE LEARNED NEW SOFTWARES AND MANY CONCEPTS ON AIR FLOW.

FALL 2012A PARTNER PROJECT THAT CULMINATED IN A MUSEUM WITH A CONCEPTUAL PROGRAM (MADE OF A SERIES OF
“WALLS” WITH CERTAIN SPATIAL QUALITIES) THAT WAS MEANT TO BE EXTREMELY SITE SPECIFIC TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD. OUR NEIGHBORHOOD WAS THE HISTORICAL DISTRICT OF CARROLLTON, AN OLD SUBURB
OF NEW ORLEANS. THE PROJECT DREW FROM THE REGULARITY OF STREETCAR STOPS ALONG THE MAIN AVENUE OF CARROLLTON AND THE LIVE OAK TREES THAT LINE THE STREET AND EVEN THE
VERNACULAR OF THE TRADITIONAL SHOTGUN HOUSE. THE GOAL OF THE PROJECT CAME TO BE PROVIDING MUCH NEEDED GREEN SPACE TO CARROLLTON, ACCOMPLISHED BY DEVOTING HALF
OF OUR SITE TO A PARK SPACE INCLUDING A COVERED COURTYARD.
