Nick Katko is one of the early pioneers of Lean Accounting. As a CFO in the 1990's Nick implemented a complete Lean Accounting System in conjunction with his company's lean transformation. Nick led the transition the away from a traditional standard costing based income statement to a value stream income statement, which led to improved business decision making. He worked with operations to create a lean performance measurement system that resulted in 20% annual productivity gains. Nick also eliminated traditional standard costing from the business. As Senior Consultant with BMA, Inc. since 2002, Nick has leveraged this experience along with his strong accounting background to assist companies resolve the realworld issues they face when implementing lean accounting. He facilitated Lean Accounting implementations with a wide range of companies, from multinational companies such as Boeing, ParkerHannifin, Novartis and Nestle to privately held family businesses. Nick’s industry experience includes applying lean accounting in manufacturing, engineering, food processing, process manufacturing, publishing, education and health care.

Nick is a co­author The Lean Business Management System; Lean Accounting Principles & Practices Toolkit (2007). Nick’s new book, The Lean CFO: Architect of the Lean Management System was published in September 2013. He also is a popular blogger about lean accounting on www.maskell.com and other web sites. Nick is a regular featured speaker at the Lean Accounting Summit, the DFMA Conference and the annual Lean China Summit.

Nick is a Certified Public Accountant and a member American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and holds a BS in Accounting and an MBA in Finance, both from the University of Kentucky.

PresentationIn his remarks, Nick will cover the following: A definition of Lean Manufacturing. Examples of successful implementations of Lean Manufacturing including examples we will see

on the TMMK plant tour. Explanations and examples of how Lean Manufacturing drives costs and response times down

and improves quality at the same time. A brief history of the progress of manufacturing going from craft, cottage industries through mass

production, the moving assembly line, and ultimately Lean Manufacturing. A definition of Lean Business Management Systems. Examples of successful implementations of Lean Business Management. Explanations and examples how Lean Business Management Systems can improve the

accounting function and business decision making.

Tour Requirements No carry­on is permitted in the Visitor Center, including purses, backpacks, briefcases, or bags of

any kind. A valid photo ID will be required for the tour. Cameras are allowed in the Visitor Center, but must be checked at the registration desk before

the plant tour.

CPE1 CPE hour for the plant tour and 2 CPE hours for the presentation for a total of 3 CPE hours.
