1 NEYVELI LIGNITE CORPORATION LIMITED, NEYVELI CSR and Sustainability Magazine October 2013 to December 2013. 09.10.2013: NLC Launched the “Arogyaa Camps” Project for the year 2013-14 on 09.10.2013. The project envisages conducting free multi-specialty free medical camps in the villages surrounding NLC‟s operating area in Neyveli. Three camps were conducted during the month of October 2013 in B2 Block of Matrukkudiyippu, A-Kuravankuppam and Seerankuppam villages respectively on 9 th , 15 th and 23 rd . The project is implemented by engaging M/s. Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), a unit of Madras Medical Mission” and a leading state-of-the-art Multi-Speciality Hospital and Teaching Institute of repute in the State of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Pondicherry, running for Tertiary Medical Care and Education, in villages where there are no permanent health care facilities, nearby. 1029 patients were screened and given medical treatment, medical advice and medicines. 151 of them were referred for further follow up treatment as inpatients at the Implementing Agency‟s Hospital at Pondicherry. Transport was also arranged by NLC for pick up the 54 patients who turned up for follow up treatment at the Hospital. NLC not only compensate & Resettle the project affected persons, it also provides substantial foundation for their livelihood by imparting earning abilities. NLC‟s CSR cell in co-ordination with Employee Development Centre (EDC) provided vocational training to the 15 PAPs from seven peripheral villages in Assembling, Maintaining and Repairing various type of A/c Units at EDC from 17.09.2013 to

27.09.2013. External Faculties were engaged from Viruthambigai ITI, Virudachalam for this training. Shri N. Ilamparuthi, ED/SME presented the certificates and cash incentives to the beneficiaries at the valedictory function on 27-09-2013.Shri D. Ravichandran, GM/CSR and Shri T.S. Siva Subramanian, GM/EDC, senior officials participated. In another programme held on 10-10-2013, Shri M. Velumani, Motor Vehicle Inspector, Neyveli presented certificates and cash incentive to 25 PAPs who were trained to operate Heavy goods &Public Transport vehicles was organised from 02.09.2013 to 10.10.2013. This training was organized by NLC EDC and CSR cell. The NLC Transport Department extended their support by providing senior operators, heavy vehicles like lorry and buses to impart training to the pursuers.

Rs.134.08 lakh under its Corporate Social Responsibility Scheme for implementing various

infrastructural works in Cuddalore District to the officials of Government of Tamil Nadu.

14.10.2013:

NLC invariably honours its commitment to the Community. As discussed and finalized during the multi-stakeholder meeting on 28.05.2013, in the Presence of the Collector of Cuddalore District, NLC has remitted an amount of Rs. 134.08 lakhs as it‟s contribution for the various works for building the community assets and social infrastructure at widely-spread locations in Cuddalore District, through the implementing agencies under the aegis of the Cuddalore District Administration, under the Self Sufficiency Scheme of Government of Tamil Nadu. On 14.10.2013, the CMD NLC, Shri. B. Surender Mohan handed over a cheque for Rs. 64.60 Lakhs to the Assistant Executive Engineer of Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, Cuddalore in the presence of Director (Human Resources) towards 100% of the cost of executing the work of “Improving Water Supply Scheme of Gangaikondan Town Panchayat”. On the same day, another cheque for Rs. 69.48 lakhs was handed over to the Director of the Cuddalore District Rural Development Authority. This is towards 1/3rd cost of various works

of value Rs. 204.43 Lakhs to be executed in Cuddalore District under the Self Sufficiency Scheme, covering the construction of Drinking-water overhead tanks in 31 villages, 3 bore-wells for with motors for Vadalur Town Panchayat and medical equipments to Vridhachalam, Chidambaram and Panruti Government Hospitals. The remaining 2/3rd cost will be provided by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

14.10.2013: NLC, strengthening its commitment in contributing to the communities where it operates, brings initiatives under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme to enhance the livelihood of people. To provide employment opportunities to the youth of peripheral villages one such new initiative, “JEEVIKA” introduced under CSR scheme imparted training in operating “Earth Moving Equipment (EME). Shri D.Ravindran, GM/CSR, the chief guest of the function, formally inaugurated the training for 25 youth in operating EME on 14-10-2013. The programme was organised by the CSR cell in tie up with MGM Heavy Equipment School, Neyveli from 12.10.2013 to 31.12.2013. After successfully completing the training, the beneficiaries will get a certificate from Dept. of Employment &Training Industrial School, Govt of TN. The chief guest also distributed certificates to 15 individuals who had undergone similar training during the period between 10.01.2013 and 31.03.2013. Till date NLC has trained 160 youth from peripheral village under Jeevika.

NLC has been recognized as the “Most Admired Organization in Mineral & Mining Sector” by presenting „The National Energy Excellence Awards 2013‟ by Asia Oil and Gas Congress, Mumbai. These awards are given to organizations to recognize its excellence and achievement across the Mining, Electricity, Oil, Gas and Petroleum industries. On behalf of NLC, Shri C. Senthamilselvan, ED (Mines) and Dr. M. Velan, CM/Corporate Environment Cell received the

award from Shri Ashok Venkat Raman, CEO, Andhra Bazaar Patrika News and Shri Rajesh Chakraborthy, VP (Marketing), SAP India Private Limited in a function at Taj Lands End, Mumbai on 21.10. 2013.

Sneha Opportunity School children celebrated Diwali festival with joy and cheer on 30-10-2013 at Sneha Amruth. Shri B.Surender Mohan CMD, NLC, Smt B.Swarnakumari Surender Mohan, President, Sneha opportunity Society, Smt.Yogamaya Acharya and Smt. Latha Ravindranath visited the children and distributed Deepavali sweets to the children and employees of SOS and enjoyed joyful time by firing crackers with them. Senior Officials of NLC and Committee Members of S.O.S, and members, office bearers of Ladies Club and WIPS members cherished the occasion.

To promote good Corporate Governance by bringing more transparency and accountability, a new significant initiative „Web hosting of vendor payment details‟ was formally hosted by Shri B.Surender Mohan, CMD, NLC at Corporate Office, Neyveli on 01/11/2013. Under the guidance of Shri Rakesh Kumar, Director (Finance) and Shri Shivraj Singh, Chief Vigilance Officer, NLC Finance Dept. designed this portal with the help of NLC Computer services Dept. The

newly launched portal can be seen as integral part of NLC‟s Website, www.nlcindia.com, where around 8000 to 10000 transactions which are being carried out every month in the organization, will be up loaded every day. One can see the payment details, date of payment, cumulative payment made on particular job etc., Moreover, there is a provision to register the complaint/ suggestion, through the given mail-ID. In his address, Shri Shivraj Singh, CVO/NLC informed that, NLC is one of the twenty PSUs, who have launched this portal, out of the 270 PSUs. The function was well attended by all Functional Directors, senior officials. Shri Mohan, CGM/Fin. welcomed the gathering and Shri Sankaranarayanan, GM/Fin. rendered the vote of thanks.

04.11.2013 Shri B. Surender Mohan, CMD, NLC, flagged off eight new buses at the bus Depot of Transport Department near TPS-I on 04.11.2013. The new buses were purchased at the cost of Rs. 1.5 crore to replace the old buses which rendered their services in the expected life time. During the occasion, CMD honoured Shri R. Annamalai, Spl.GradeMaster Operator of Bus Services for his outstanding contribution in training driving skills to the junior operators. Functional Directors, Shri Sarat Kumar Acharya, Shri Rakesh Kumar, Shri S. Rajagopal, Shri M.S. Ravindranath, Shri S. Boopathy, senior executives, representatives of trade unions and associations were present on the occasion.

17.11.2013 To maintain an effective cooperative system and to stimulate an organizational culture, in the company, our EDC organized a two day Workshop on “Partners in Progress” for Representatives of Associations along with Management Representatives of NLC. Shri B. Surender Mohan, CMD, the Chief Guest inaugurated the workshop in the presence of Shri Sarat Kumar Acharya, Director (HR) and Shri Rakesh Kumar Director (Finance) at Employee Development Centre, Neyveli, on 17.11.13. The two day work shop has delivered, how to inculcate the Organisational Belongingness, to understand the Roles & Responsibility, to build a contributing & sharing culture among employees, to manage change effectively through the Change agents and to bring greater transformation in work culture of the organization. The Office bearers from Graduate Engineers Association (GEA), Engineers Association (EA) National Graduate Engineers Association (NGEA) & Officers Associations (OA) along with Senior officials from Human Resources and Finance Departments participated. Prof. Binay Kumar, former Director (Personnel) POWERGRID & NHPC and presently associated with „MANUSHUO UTDHAN‟, New Delhi & Ms.Daisy Varun, and a Professional Behavioral Analyst were the faculties for the workshop.

NLC, for demonstrating a high corporate philosophy, policies, practices and its substantial contribution to Power sector has been recognized with „Best Overall Performance (Brown Coal) Award 2013‟, by The Council of Power Utilities (CPU), a National level forum to evolve solutions for the problems faced by Power industry. Shri B. Surender Mohan, CMD & Shri S. Rajagopal, Director (Power) received the award on

behalf of NLC in the 6th India Power Award Presentation Ceremony at Hotel Taj Krishna, Hyderabad on 22.11.2013. Shri P. Abraham, Former Secretary, Ministry of Power, GoI , Shri H.L. Bajaj, Former Member (Tech.), Appellate Tribunal for Electricity. Shri C.V.J. Verma, President, CPU and Dr. C.R. Prasad, Former CMD, GAIL presented the award. For the year 2012-13, NLC has generated 1990 Crore unit of power and exported 1684 Crore unit and becomes a perennial power resource for all the southern states, by supplying uninterrupted and quality power in an affordable price. Previously, NLC received the „India Power Award 2012‟ from CPU in 2012 for being the Largest Lignite Power Generating Company in the country.

National Day of Mentally Challenged was observed at NCL National Day of Mentally Challenged was observed at NLC on 03.12.2013 by Sneha Opportunity Services (SOS) of NLC, which has been fostering the rehabilitation of mentally challenged children since July 1987. Shri B. Surender Mohan, CMD NLC, the Chief Guest of the function, inaugurated the program. A pledge pertaining to the rights of the mentally challenged children

was administered by the Executive Committee members of SOS. Smt. Swarnakumari Surender Mohan, the President of SOS presided over the function along with Functional Directors and CVO of NLC and spoke on the occasion. Sneha School children presented sparkling cultural progrmmes and won the hearts of the audience.

Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) has awarded the “Corporate Citizenship Award” to NLC, to recognize its initiatives towards maintaining eco-friendly environment and for the upliftment of the community, especially for the disabled and mentally challenged persons. Shri B. Surender Mohan, CMD, NLC received the award from Shri Harish Bijoor, CEO, Harish Bijoor Consults Inc., and Shri R.K. Dharan, Conference Chairman and Chairman of

PRSI, Chennai Chapter. NLC in association with PRSI, Chennai chapter a National level professional body in the field of Public Relations had organized a two day National Conference on “PR, Corporate Communications and the Emerging trends in CSR” at Chennai on 13.12.2013 and 14.12.2013. 16.12.2013 NLC, for its various energy conservation measures implemented in Mines has been conferred with the prestigious National Energy Conservation Award for the year 2013 by the Ministry of Power, GOI. B. Surender Mohan, CMD, NLC received the award from the Hon‟ble President of India Shri. Pranab Mukherjee, in a function held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on 16-12-2013. Shri Jyothiraditya M Scindia, Hon‟ble Minister of State for Power, Shri Pradeep Kumar Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Power, GOI were present on the occasion. Shri S. Rajagopal, Director (Power), Shri. M. S. Ravindranath, Director (Mines), Shri. R. Kanagachalam, CGM /Mine-II and Shri. S. Perumal, GM/Elec./Mine-II, joined our CMD in receiving the award.

24.12.2013:

NLC, provided training in Driving Light Motor Vehicles to the 25 members of youth from peripheral villages under its Corporate Social Responsibility Scheme, from 18-11-2013 to 23-12-2013.First of its kind 5 women members underwent the training of LMV driving successfully. Ajith pathak National President, PRSI declared these awards to NLC at the 35th All India Public Relations Conference held in New Delhi on December 28, 2013.
