Location and ideas

• The next meeting should happen in March-April next year. It was envisioned to be hosted by INFN-Padova

• I would like to make this a very nice event, to “set the tone” of our network workshops– Padova is a nice town, with an old University and lots of artistic

attractions. – However, I live in Venice and I would love to bring you there....

• Hence I am investigating the option of hosting the meeting in a luxurious venue, a 600-years-old palace on the Grand Canal, Ca’ Sagredo, now a 5+ stars hotel.

• BTW, Gianfrancesco Sagredo was a scientist and a great friend of Galileo Galilei...

Proposed venue Thanks to a connection with themanager of Hotel Ca’ Sagredo, we have a chance to hold the next meetingin the “sala della musica” of the palace. The idea is to create a collateral event toour workshop, with a public conference onparticle physics and the universe, made more appealing by the offer of music beforeand after the lecture (the room seats 100-120)This follows a successful format at the venue, which is particularly suited for classical music(houses a spectacular ‘800 piano)

Possible format• We could hold the workshop on a Friday afternoon, 14.00-18.00, and the following Saturday

morning (9.00-13.00). You would then be free to stay one more night to enjoy Venice...– Ca’ Sagredo is probably very expensive for stays (will anyway ask for a bundle price); in any case,

reasonably priced hotels abound at walking distance• At 18.30 on Friday a public conference could be held, preceded and followed by music

(piano+voice, or 2-3 instruments)– our press office would publicize the event and distribute the info to the media (w. releases like

“International scientists meet at Ca’ Sagredo to plan their searches for new physics”)– the hotel network would guarantee a full room

• The hotel would offer a superb buffet after the event, to all participants • One additional idea I am investigating, on which the manager resonates, is to host in parallel

an art exhibit on the piano nobile (for 2-3 weeks), with artworks on the theme of the origin of the Universe and the subatomic world– I am in contact with the organizer of a similar past event who may help setting this one up – A professor of contemporary art in Padova already accepted to give a speech at the vernissage– A second public lecture on particle physics and the cosmos would take place on the same afternoon,

further raising the interest and the value of the event– The above plan requires sponsors , but the hotel is not new to this kind of activities and there is a

chance to make this work• The costs of this event must be kept limited for INFN-PD, as the director does not see

favourably this kind of
