The term started well and the children are trying hard to do their best as at times the cold and the rain make it that little bit harder as I’m, sure you are aware. Reporting to Parents Thank you parents for your help in getting the children home early on Parent Teacher Interview day. It is a very useful time for you and our staff to discuss your child’s progress as they concentrate on the rest of the term. Year 5—8 Dancing These skill lessons have started and the pupils seem to be really enjoying them. Fact-A-Thon This is our last big fundraiser for the term and the year. We are doing a fact-a-thon about New Zealand and some fun things the pupils should know. We will be giving out prizes for best boy and girl sponsor- ship over the school. We hoped this will help parents as Term 4 heads towards Christmas. We don’t want to bother you with fundraising in the last term as it’s hard enough buying Christmas pre- sents and preparing for Christmas! KOS Keeping Ourselves Safe has started and is going well and giving the children vital skills for life. English and Maths ICAS testing has now been completed and the results should be here early in Term 4. Photo Day The school photo day will be Friday 14th August. Please ensure your child comes in their full, clean and tidy winter uniform with polished shoes. Sports teams should bring their sports gear (and clean shoes) for their team photos. Dong Sung Our students from Dong Sung (5 pupils in Room 11) will be returning to South Korea next week on Thursday 20th Au- gust. Thank you to their homestay par- ents, Room 11 teacher and pupils and the ESOL staff for assisting with their stay. I’m sure they will go back with great memories of their time in New Zealand. School Roll As you are aware, the Ministry of Education has granted our roll increase to 300 which we are thrilled about. A condition in allowing that increase was that we are limited to having 25 children who can be enrolled on the non- preference section of our school roll. The non-preference section is for families who are not attending any church and who have not provided a “Preferential Form” signed by their Church leadership. This school was set up for Christian families originally to support them in educating their children. At the moment, and for the rest of this year, our non-preferential roll is full and we will need to start a waitlist for any families who might wish to study at our school but who have not provided a preferential form. This increase means that we now have space in our school for those families who enrol under our Preferential section. Open Day Our next Open Day is Thursday 20th August between 9.30am—2.30pm. Please invite any friends or fellow church friends to see the school in action. BOT Meeting Our monthly BOT meeting will be held on 18th August at 7.30pm in our staffroom. Ministry of Education Website The Ministry of Education has updated its website and there is a whole section particularly relevant to parents. When you have an opportunity, please take a look at www.education.govt.nz. Yummy Stickers We are collecting Yummy Stickers at our school. Please make a huge ef- fort to collect these and once you have filled a sheet, return this to your class teacher for 1000 house points! Closing date for any stickers is Fri- day 18th September! Please support our school to get some fantastic rewards! Family Movie Night Friends of Westminster presents its Annual Family Movie Night on the 28th of August. Time: 6.15 pm (doors open 6pm) Tickets: $5 each includes popcorn and a drink. (under 2's free) Please bring small change as there will be drinks, lollies, ice blocks etc sold on the night. Socks Socks are as soft as a sweet bunny. Socks are as stinky as a skunk. Socks are like heaters on your feet. Socks are like identical twins. Socks are like a jumper on your feet. Many people think that science has proved evolution. Is this correct? Does this issue even really matter? After all, isn’t the Gospel the most

important part of Christianity? Can’t we just focus on Jesus? This talk points out why the answers to these questions really do matter and

have eternal implications, especially for today’s young people; how the Gospel is founded in Genesis, and how science actually supports the

account of origins in The Book – the Bible – rather than the book “On the Origin of the Species” by Charles Darwin, as claimed by evolu-

tionists.

Dr Jim Mason, a nuclear physicist from Creation Ministries International will be giving one of his dynamic messages Origins by the Book:

Genesis vs “On the Origin of Species”. Lock in the date and remember to bring a friend: 7.00pm on Friday 14 August at Windsor Park

Baptist Church, 550 East Coast Road, Mairangi Bay.

The Intermediates started Dance this week as part

of the Arts Curriculum, delivered by Stepz Dance.

They are learning different dances such as Latin

American, Rock n Roll, line dancing and many more.

Great fun!

We also have some friends from Dong Sung in our class. Each

one of them have a year 7/8 buddy and they are joining in with

all our activities. It is nice to be able to share our culture with

them and to teach them what it means to be a Kiwi.
