Presbyterians Caring for Chaplains and Military Personnel Partnership - Contact Rev. Bill Nisbet, [email protected] report

Presbyterians for a Better Georgia Partnership - Contact Rev. David Lewicki, [email protected] or Rev. Shelli Latham, [email protected]

The Georgia Legislative session has now ended. Presbyterians for a Better Georgia (PBG) as led by our Advocate, Elizabeth Appley, lobbied primarily for access to housing, access to healthcare, and establishment of a hate crimes law in Georgia.

A win! PBG is a part of the Healthy Housing Georgia coalition that successfully brought House Bill 346 (Healthy Housing) to passage that will prohibit retaliatory eviction of tenants complaining to code enforcement of unsafe and unhealthy rental housing conditions. This is already the law in 41 other states including all of Georgia’s neighboring states.

PBG leadership are now working to revise the future organizational structure of PBG in order to be more effective. A key to greater effectiveness is to engage more congregations and individuals in the Presbytery by providing leadership composed of an Advisory Council and Board of Directors with specific roles and committee leaders rather than the current co-chair model. Proposed changes will be refined over the next few months.

WCF at Georgia Tech has been very busy in 2019!In addition to normal dinners, worship services, and small groups, our American students hosted a high school group on March 27th. The group joined us for our worship service, and we had a panel of students share about their experience with faith in college. If you know of any high school seniors headed to Tech later this year, we’d love to personally invite them to preview our activities during this spring semester! Email [email protected] for more information. Our American students are also preparing for their yearly Outreach Week. During April 1-5 the students will host and take part-in different events around campus. The goal of this activity is to build relationships with more students and share about our faith and ministry. Please pray for courage, gentleness, respect, and good opportunities to meet people and share God’s love!

Our Chinese student group recently sent 37 people to the Southeast Chinese Gospel Camp in late March. The camp was for both Christians and those learning about the faith. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn how to apply the Bible to one’s journey, as well as discuss the meaning of life. Finally, our Chinese adult scholar group went to Blue Ridge during March 16-18. With 35 people, we participated in different fun events and each evening discussed basic Gospel questions, beginning with the existence of God. Each trip brings our friends closer to hearing the Spirit call them, and we are always encouraged by their questions and their understanding of what it means to follow Christ.
