Year 3 and 4 Gardening and Cooking

This week room 3.1 and T3 have been harvesting and cooking from our own school garden. Last term students

planting an assortment of winter vegetables and have been waiting patiently for them to grow. Our gardener,

Carlos, helped our cauliflower and cabbages grow by making a net to keep the cabbage moths away. We

harvested; cauliflowers, carrots, beetroot, cabbage, spring onions, chives, spinach and broccoli. Our broccoli

had already gone to seed but we discovered that you can eat the flowers and they are very sweet. We learnt

how to prepare the vegetables for cooking, including how to hold and cut with a knife safely. We cooked

Beet and Carrot Latkes, Cauliflower Fried Rice and Coleslaw. The garden has now been planted with summer

salad vegetables like tomato, cucumber and lettuce. We are looking forward to harvesting these next term.

Safety House

The Safety House Program offers a place of safety for children when they are away from the security and comfort of their

home and school environment. The Safety House sign on a house letterbox or shop window means that the premises have

been thoroughly checked and designated as a safe place. Children can go to that house or shop if they feel unsafe on their

way to and from school.

For parents, the Safety House sign represents reassurance and peace of mind and shows that the local community is helping

to keep their area a safe place for children.

The Safety House Program is a positive preventative measure, which successfully provides assistance to children in distress

and which acts as an ongoing deterrent to those people seeking to harm children in any way.

The Safety House program also provides personal safety education to primary school children through school shows and

publications. These initiatives provide children with the skills and confidence to better manage their personal safety. The

School Banking day is Friday

Remember, Friday is School Banking day between 8:20 — 8:40am in the undercover area. Students

should bring in their weekly deposit to the undercover area.

For every deposit made at school, students will receive a silver Dollar mites token. Once students

have individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for an exclusive School Banking reward

item in recognition of their regular saving habits.

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers

contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution

which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the

prior year.

If your child has lost their book they can bring their money to school in a sealed envelope with a note

and on the next banking day we will issue them with a replacement.

Thank you for supporting the school banking program at Golden Bay Primary School. We would also

like to thank the wonderful parents who volunteer as our School Banking Co—coordinators and

process our banking every week.

For more information visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking

The rewards available during 2019 are:

Scented stackable highlighters
