"REMEMBRANCE DAY On Tuesday our Grade 4 students conducted the Remembrance Day Ceremony here at school which was a time to reflect and remember wars past and present. The students did a fantastic job with the whole ceremony and showed great leadership. Riley Nicholson and Grace Robinson represented the school and attended the Warrnambool Remembrance Day Ceremony. Well done everyone! "SCHOOL PINE PLANTATION Families travelling along Caramut Road may have noticed the school pine planation has now gone. Recent clearing of the plantation has taken place with some great success, due to the work of our School Council. "School plantations exist at a number of sites across the state and were established in the early 1980’s as a way for School Councils to invest and access future funds. The original school planation was established in 1981 but didn’t survive, then in 1982 was replanted by the then School Council. The land was leased to the school for $1.00 per annum by Max and Anne Holmes; 5.3 hectares in total. At the time the planation was let go a little and work to thin and fertilize took place a little late in the early 90’s. Most recently, Sam and Linda Robinson as owners of the land, have allowed the school to host the planation on their property for no cost. "This year School Council decided to clear the plantation with an aim to cover costs and maybe have a small profit at the end. Thanks to Sam Robinson and Simon Poynton we were able to find people within the tree industry to clear the site for us. As a result of the clearing and sale of the pine (1500 tonnes) $18,000 was raised for the school; with an estimated further spend of about $4000 to finish the clean-up in 2015. This is a great result for the work put in place a number of years ago by the School Council at the time. Thanks to Simon Poynton for co-ordinating the clearing and sale of the plantation. Also on behalf of the school community thank you to the Robinson Family for lending the land during this project. The money raised from the pine plantation will go towards the Basketball Court upgrade, which is happening over the coming months. "PLANNING FOR 2015 As mentioned last week we have finalised our teaching staff for 2015. We have Mrs Cumming (formerly Miss Christensen) returning from family leave next year for 2 days a week to run our specialist programs in Art and Science. Laura has been on family leave since the end of 2010 and is very excited about her return. The class breakdowns for now are below. Teachers are working on allocating students in the Prep - 2 areas. We spend a lot of time discussing and working out grades each year and base our decisions on what best suits each child. December 9 is the state-wide Orientation Day in which students will spend the morning with next year’s class and teachers. "Teaching Staff 2015 "

iPAD PROGRAM UPDATE Tuesday night after school we held a 2nd Information Session for parents about the iPad program next year. Again if you have any questions please give me a call or pop in and see me. A note has gone home to clarify some items in the green lease form. Just to be clear, at the end of the lease the iPad belongs to the student/family. Students receive the iPad + Cover + $30 iTunes Card for the total cost of $550.00, the school subsidies the remaining costs. "Order forms for iPads and Cases, along with the User Agreement/Lease are due in tomorrow November 14th please. That way we can place orders next week and have iPads set up and ready for collection before the end of year.

"GOVERNOR’S VISIT TO WOOLSTHORPE On Saturday November 22nd Victorian Governor the Honourable Mr Alex Chernov will be visiting Woolsthorpe and officially opening the upgraded Woolsthorpe War Memorial. As part of the visit the Governor and his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Chernov will be having lunch at the school, after a tour of our school and the Kitchen Garden. The Kitchen Garden lunch will be served by our Grade 6 students with the help of Linda Robinson and parent helpers. "We are encouraging all students to attend the Woolsthorpe War Memorial Opening and we ask that students wear their full school uniform to represent the school. "SUN SMART Term 1 & 4 students must wear school hats at recess and lunch time each day. Student’s should also apply sunscreen every day, especially as the weather starts to warm up. Parents can you please ensure your children have school hats and sunscreen. We do have class bottles of sunscreen if students forget. "WRITTEN NOTES & COMMUNICATION As we have stated on a number of occasions in newsletters, for safety and logistical reasons, it is important if there are any changes to student pick up arrangements or bus travel arrangements that the school is notified in writing (dated and signed). "Please understand that phone calls are for last minute changes only. Students doing the Active After School Program are expected to take part in this program every session, unless we are notified in writing otherwise. Clear communication between home and school is vital for the safety of all students, parents and staff. Duty of care is something we take very seriously and I am sure you appreciate we have high expectation here. "As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call.
