BALLROOM FUNDRAISING

This month, we are launching our

fundraising campaign to help

finance the renovations needed in

the ballroom. We have many new

and exciting ideas to raise funds

and welcome any other ideas you

may have. Last season, we raised

almost $80,000. To date, so far

this season, we have raised over

$15,000 moving toward a goal of

$100,000. As you are aware, the

more we raise through donations,

the less we have to borrow.

Some of the ideas we are pursuing

are: Block parties (pass the bucket

for donations), Club donations, the

Pink boxes located in the home-

owners office and activity office

where we take cash, check, and

change etc., and a possible Mardi

Gras luncheon put on by Frank.

One of our clubs is putting on a

musical show, YUMA MIA,

where the proceeds will go to the

renovation, how exciting!! We al-

so have some challenges that are

being worked on by some of our

homeowners.

(continued…)

Another, and perhaps the easiest

of all is to add a couple of dollars

(or more) to the price of your ac-

tivity tickets. When you buy a

ticket in the activity office, just

tell the girls to add the contribu-

tion. Easy peasy!!

If anyone has any other ideas,

please contact me and we’ll try to

help make it happen. Also, if/

when you do a small fund-

raiser, let me know so I can

advertise it for you. Thanks

for every thing you do!!

The Building Fund Committee is

once again partnering with the

Board of Directors to raise funds

for the Ballroom Renovation. We

have contributed $10,000 from the

Building Fund coffers this year –

augmenting the $25,000 we con-

tributed last year. For more details

on fundraising efforts for the Ball-

room see Diana Barela’s article also

in this month’s Courier.

Building Fund events in February

are Saturday Morning Breakfasts,

Spaghetti Dinner, Carnival Night

(Feb 6), and the Chicken Cordon

Bleu Dinner Show (Feb 23). The

Spaghetti Dinner and Dinner Show

will most likely be sell-outs, so get

your tickets while you can. And

Marv and Yvonne Dutnall are gear-

ing up to do Ficus tree painting. If

you are interested in having your

tree painted, there is a sign-up sheet

outside the Ballroom or you can

call Marvin at 928-726-3542. The

cost depends on the size of the tree.

By holding such events the Build-

ing Fund raises money so we can

help fund projects like the sun

shade that went in recently on the

Ballroom patio. To apply for fund-

ing from the Building Fund, start by

filling out a Request for Project

form available in the Main Office.

What activity is excellent for aging

brains? What activity is excellent for

maintaining your balance and coor-

dination? What activity is excellent

for toning muscles and getting your

heart rate up? What activity is ex-

cellent for social interaction and

swered Line Dancing for each of

those questions, you'd be correct!

Line dancing checks off all those

boxes, and that's what makes it so

catchy tunes that you hum for days

afterwards, and you'll see why we

By regulation, bingo funds must be given to a charity or non profit or-ganization in the year the funds were collected. For 2019, that meant we had $12,000 to distribute. At a vol-unteers meeting in December, we were moved by the dilemma the City of Yuma Police Department faced at the sudden loss of one of their K9 officers, who suddenly passed away from cancer. A fully trained police dog costs $25,000 to $30,000 with equipment and as this replacement was not scheduled in their budget, they were accepting outside dona-tions to defray the costs of dog re-placement. At the meeting, the vol-unteers suggested that $6,000 be do-nated to help fund the K9 replace-ment and the other $6,000 be given to the ballroom expansion fund. (When added to other bingo dona-tions over the past 2 years, that brought the total donated to the reno-vation fund to $42,000). At the board meeting on January 14th, the board accepted the recom-mendation of the bingo volunteers and authorized Country Roads Bingo to donate $6,000 to the special Yuma Police department fund to help pur-chase a new K9 officer and to donate $6,000 to the ballroom expansion fund. The donation to the City allows us to “pay back to the community’, in that much of our profit is generated from patrons outside our park and it is nice to be able to show that Country Roads cares about our community and is there to help when needed. There will be an official "check giv-ing” function at either a city facility or Country Roads site when the offi-cial donation will be given. We are expecting Yuma Sun coverage, per-haps local TV and certainly some police and possibly other municipal officials to be there. (continued…)

I will put that information out in the form of a BLAST when time and location have been co-ordinated. and I hope to see a large contingent from CRRV on hand to support this great cause. Well done Country Roads. Dave Wylie Bingo Manager

CAN/AM festivities are one of the highlights for the CR Chorus each season and this year was no excep-tion. A warm and festive welcome helped the chorus members sing their finest and we thank you for inviting us once again. February looks to be busy, BUSY, BUSY as we are in the final rehears-als for this year’s show: YUMA MIA. Set for an evening perfor-mance on FEBRUARY 21st and a matinee on FEBRUARY 22nd…it’s a delightful story written by Jo Night-ingale, with songs made famous by the group known as ABBA interwo-ven throughout the play. Peggy Scott is the director and her vision has brought the story off the paper and into delightful view. You’ll not want to miss it! Ticket sales began in early January, but due to the two perfor-mances, check Activities for availa-bility.

Come join the Country Roads Dance Club for FREE dance lessons every week in the ballroom before Happy Hours. Classes will be on Tues-days OR Wednesdays, depending on which day that week's Happy Hour is. That makes it easy for you to stay for Happy hour to practice what you are learning in class. Classes are open to the public and start at 1:30 and are FREE. For more information, contact Paulette Frase at [email protected] or (509)845-3364. One thing we stress at each class is proper "dance-floor eti-quette". The line of dance is al-ways counter-clockwise and you should "stay in the proper lane" - outside lane is for very fast danc-ers, next lane is for pattern danc-ers, and middle is for regular dancing, with line dancing in the front or rear of the room. Al-so, Do not enter the dance floor directly in he way of oncoming dancers and keep the visiting off the dance floor as not to block dancers coming around. Paulette Frase, lot 288

Love all the recycling going on in

our park...shows how much we

care. It would help even more if

you would take time to break

down your cardboard boxes so

the dumpsters could hold lots

more and it wouldn’t look so

cluttered around that area.

Dear Valentine,

Will you still love me if I eat

peanuts and pork rinds?

Will you still be MBFF if I drink

“Bulletproof” instead of Starbucks?

Will you get healthy by starting

Keto Club with twenty like minded

people in February?

Great! Keto Club meets on

Mondays at 10:00 am in the

It is hard to believe that over half of

our winter season is over. Marketing

has been incredibly busy this year

promoting our wonderful park and

this certainly includes the Welcome

Office. The Welcome Office contin-

ues to be very busy and we are start-

ing to get inquiries about next sea-

son. Be sure to get your place listed

on the website, bulletin board and the

facebook page “For Sale and Rent”

so we can help people find the per-

fect place to be—Country Roads.

We will be selling Country Roads shirts, as well as visors, hats and lan-yards at the craft fairs. The Country

Roads shirts come in two different fabrics and many colors. Be sure to stop by the table and order yours.

Not only are they great shirts but it is an extra way for you to market our Park. Remember, Life is good at

Country Roads.

Interested in making new friends and having an exciting few hours in the New Year? Why not join our friendly group? Our meetings are Thursdays from 10:00 until noon in the Mojave Room. We take turns picking a topic. Your story should be 500 words or less. However, you are always welcome to choose your own topic if you are not in love with the suggested one. After we read our stories, a 10 mi-nute writing is done. I especially enjoy this as it's interesting to see the different directions people take their tales in such a short time! Stop by and, give us a try!! You may be surprised how fun this is!! Looking forward to seeing you there! Be sure to stop and check us our at the Art Expo on February 21st in the Ballroom

The shop is well equipped with pro-fessional grade tools and equip-ment. And, knowledgeable mem-bers willing to share their knowledge with the membership. Our facility is open 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday. Tours of the facility are available during operat-ing hours. The Woodworking Shop operates as a club under the auspi-ces of the Country Roads Board of Directors. Operating funds are gen-erated by annual dues and various fund raising activities such as locker rentals and draws for quality wood products donated to the club from various suppliers. During operating hours, monitors are available to pro-vide advice, information and direc-tion. Safety is paramount among our membership. With that in mind the club has several programs in place to ensure the safety of the membership. A recent review of concerns for noise levels, safety walkways, more work areas/counters and consolidation of like tools/accessories was conducted. This review resulted in the imple-mentation of a reorganization of the shop floor and work areas. Preven-tative maintenance programs such as 'Make it Safe' will soon usher in the 'Safety for the Future' pro-gram.

The 2020 election packets have been mailed, and the five candidates on the ballot are: Diana Barela, Wally Brauer, Duane Byerley, Craig Ferguson and Rhonda Obus. There are three (3) open positions on the Board of Directors that will be voted on at the March 10, 2020 Annual Meeting. The candidate’s pictures are posted on Channel 1390, and in the glass enclosed bulletin boards around the corner from the Activities Office and Post Office. You will want to attend our “Meet the Candidates” forum on Monday February 10, 1:00 PM in the ball-room. This will be your chance to become better acquainted with our candidates. Come and listen to what they have to say. The candidates will each be given up to five (5) minutes to tell you about themselves and what they can contribute to our park. For the second segment, it is your chance to ask the candidates ques-tions, so be thinking what you might want to ask the candidates about their thoughts looking forward.

We are encouraging you to bring your laptop, tablet or phone, we will help you sign into the web-site. Personnel will be there to give you a password, if you have not yet signed into the website. Be thinking of a password you can use and remember. Also, we will help you sign up for “E” billing statements. This will save the park $$$$$$. Please come to our THM

The Annual Meeting March 10, 2020 will open at 9:00 am for voting until 10:00 am. You may vote in person; you will be given a Meeting Day Ballot which will be a different color of paper than your absentee ballot. At 10:00 AM the business meeting will convene.

What makes a ballot ineligible?

1. No name, signature and lot number on the ballot.

All assessments and or fines and work orders had to have been current at the “day of record” which was Jan-uary 24, if any were unpaid you are ineligible to vote.

The day of record refers to who owned the property on the business day prior to the day the ballot infor-mation was mailed. That homeowner on that date is the person eligible to vote. That is January 24.

Reminders

1. Read and follow all voting instructions that are on the cover letter in your ballot packet.

2. Absentee ballots: Please use the enclosed envelope included in the ballot packet to return your bal-lot. Return it either in person by dropping it into the ballot box in the Homeowners Office or by mail by Monday March 9, 2020 3:00 PM. That date and time is when the Absentee voting is closed for mailed ballots and electronic voting.

3. DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR HOMEOWNERS ASSESSMENT CHECK IN THE BALLOT ENVE-LOPE IT COULD EASILY BE MISPLACED.

4. Voting will be by written ballot or electronic voting. If you want to find out about electronic voting come to our Town Hall Meeting in the ballroom February 12, 1:00 pm.

5. Once a ballot is cast, in the ballot box, it may not be revoked.

6. If you do not receive your ballot packet by February 15, please contact the election chairman.

7. All ballots are tabulated by the CITYCYNC system, and results will be given by our manager Vanessa Harris prior the conclusion of the Annual Business meeting.
