PRESIDENT’S REPORT
August has been another quiet month for club
activity, with the run to Young for the Damper Day
being cancelled, due to the weather, but there is
still the Debutante Ball on the 20th August and the
Wattle Time Parade on 27th August.
September is our Big Month, with the Annual
Father’s Day Swap Meet taking place on the first
weekend of the month – also the Land Rover get
together at the Airport with the Sprints also running
there. This weekend always keeps us busy so please
look at your Time Table and slot in some time to
help the club on - Friday when we set up the
showground for the weekend – Saturday when
some people arrive to set up their Stalls and this
year for the first time, to also Sell and on Sunday,
which is our Main Day for Selling. Workers are
needed especially for Saturday & Sunday for many
different tasks so give Lynne a ring on 6942 1282,
even if you can only spare an hour, it all helps and
is very much appreciated.
We also have other good events in September for
all to participate in and enjoy.
COMING EVENT’S page will have events for
September and then October and on to Christmas,
so bring out your lovely old cars for all to see and
enjoy the camaraderie of our club and others
we join with.
Don’t forget our run to Gunning with our friends
in the Moss Vale Club – this is a great day – you
can have lunch in one of the many cafes or the
Hotel, or join in a Sausage Sizzle, where we bring
our own sausages and a Salad to share and maybe
some slice or something sweet. Betsy & I will have
our BBQ to share) but I can’t guarantee I will have
Sausages !
Harro.

CLUB HAPPENING & EVENTS
Wagga Swap – 17 July
For once the Wagga Swap had good weather, no
rain, no sleet, no frost but beautiful blue skies.
The training area was allowed for display & of
course there was the rose between two thorns, my
SS Hatchback Torana and a pair of Fraud Mustangs.
Not much to get for a Torana nutter but some
people walked away with a few bargains (all the
other Torana nutters must have beat Barry to what
was available).
A neat 1926 "T" Model Ford Roadster? was for sale.
At the swap were club members Gus & Janelle,
Sue & Graham, Tim & Ting, Ray Douglas, John &
Joan, Frank O'Conner and Alan Thompson, Barry
& Lynn with Ethan (& any one else I didn't see or
remember)
Ethan met up with Tim & Ting and posed for this photo
Editor Graham with a rather masculine trolley & chains around
his neck. His other half Sue, quickly made a get-away when
asked to pose with Graham and his chains. Kinky or jingling
chains Graham?

MOTORBIKE CRASH CARDS – 28th
July
Club president, Ken Harrison, motor cycle
members of the Cootamundra Antique Motor Club,
Ulysses Clubs Cootamundra & Bega, Cootamundra
Restorers Club, White Knight Group & social rider
met at the Cootamundra Ambulance Station to
launch the Crash Cards locally for Motor Cyclists.
Representatives of the Police, Ambulance & Fire &
Rescue were also in attendance
These cards were instigated in the UK by the
Paramedics/Ambulance Motor Cycle Club & are
now spreading around the world. In Australia the
initiative was taken up by the Hornsby Council in
Sydney. The CAMC has also joined the initiative to
promote the cards in the local area.
5
The cards are approved by the Ambulance Service,
Police & Fire Rescue & are free to riders. They are
carried in the riders helmet with a red sticker
attached the right side of the helmet to indicate
that a crash card is inside.

INSURANCE QUESTIONS UNDER
NEW LOG BOOK SCHEME
Letter in other club magazine:
In relation to your article on NRMA’s insurance
policy, I too have comprehensive cover & I, too,
rang them recently to enquire if there were any
implications for me opting into the log book
scheme, especially as RMS uses the term ‘personal
use’ when describing its benefits.
I was informed that my vehicle can’t be used for
anything other than hobby or recreation use, even
on any of the 60 days under the Log Book Scheme.
In particular the vehicle can’t be used for the sort
of things I use my modern car (on full registration)
for. Three examples I was given that are outside
the terms of the policy were shopping, Dr’s
appointments and picking up the grandkids from
school. That’s because they are regarded as
personal, not recreation or hobby use.
I was told if an accident were to take place while
engaged in such activities it’s likely a claim would
be disallowed. The reason is simply that the low
premiums have been set based on recreation and
hobby use only, not on everyday-type use. So while
the log book scheme might seem like the best thing
since sliced bread, obviously there are limitations,
especially when it comes to comprehensive
insurance and members who opt in should revise
any prior thinking that they can use their vehicle as
they wish.
I was also told by NRMA about the new limit of
10 days per month, even though there is no mention
of it in my policy which was renewed last
September. Having participated in an occasional
tour taking more than 10 days I asked how I’d get
on if I attended another in the future. I was told
that I’d have to tell NRMA of my intentions well in
advance as they’d have to ask the underwriter who
operates normal office hours and the answer may
depend on my experience with NRMA, such as the
length of time I’ve been a policyholder and claims
experience etc.
There have been various similar articles in some
recent magazines indicating concerns &
frustrations over insurance restrictions on ‘personal
use’ on NRMA Veteran, Vintage & Classic
insurance. I do not understand why there is an
indicated issue. Club rego is for recreation use, not
private use, whether on the current system or the
trial log book scheme. I am sure the new log book
scheme is being trailed as another option/future
direction for club rego in NSW, not to allow
concessional rego of an old vehicle (at very cheap
rates) so you can use the vehicle for trips to the
shops & private purposes. Insurance companies are
also just following suit, providing cheap
concessional insurance based on the restricted use
of the vehicle. The answer is quite simple. If you
want the privilege of cheap rego & insurance, there
are caveats. If you do not like or want to adhere to
such caveats, then pay the extra to fully register
and insure you vehicle & use it as you wish & to
your hearts content.
On checking my insurance with NRMA (arranged
a few months ago), it does clearly state 10 days or
less use per month (as I was also advised when I
obtained the policy).
But it is a warning to those on the log book
scheme. The scheme does allow some extra
freedoms, but you must ensure you are using your
vehicle within the requirements (recreational/hobby
use & not private purposes)

Maybe I should have included this prior to the
Olympics, but if you are looking for some great car
shows & have internet coverage (& sufficient data),

focused on cars. Roadkill (one of my favourites)
is a hit show on this channel.

including his own collection of vehicles.
The Smoking Tyre (Youtube): described as ‘real,
no bullshit car reviews & news from guys who
care about driving more than anything’.

worldwide hit that has cult following (especially
in the younger car crowd. Started with 2 friends
making modifications to cars in their driveway
& has continually grown & developed. It is
even played in Supercheap Auto stores.

SCROUNGED STUFF
The Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln rally will be in
Temora & surrounds from 10-18 September.
They will be in Cootamundra on Sunday 11th to
check out some of our attractions & will be at
the Cricket Captains Walk for lunch.
At the same time, cars from the Vintage Vehicle
Club of Australia 1919-1930 Inc will be on a
tour from Sydney, which includes a 3 night stay
in Cootamundra from 15th September. They will
be exploring Coota on Friday & in Temora on
Saturday (as is the Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln Rally).
Check out & join in on our club run to the
Temora Aviation Museum on 17th September
where the vehicles from these clubs will be
heading to as well. The Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln
Rally will have a display at the end of the fly
day.
An organiser of the Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln rally
is Graham Allum. He studies the antique vehicle
movement throughout the world & writes the
“Is There An Old Car In Your Future?” articles
in Restored Cars magazine .
The VALIANT Galant of the (1972 – 1976) were
Mitsubishi built. In the USA they were
marketed as DODGE Colts and PLYMOUTH
Crickets.
In the book “HEY CHARGER” it says that the
Charger R/T E49 was Australia’s fastest
acceleration production car & held that claim
for 27 years.
John & Joan Collins have been busy lately
touring Griffith and Parkes. The Beetle toured
with the Riverina VW Club to take part in the
big Street Parade for Griffith’s Centenary
celebrations. They then toured to the Parkes
area with a dozen Fords of The Outback Model
T Ford Club.
The July Issue of the Wolseley Wisdom had a
great article on the 1910 Brooke Swan Car
(picture below). Check out a video also on Jay
Lenos Garage Youtube channel. The car even
spits hot water out of the swans mouth & also
defecates.

The Inverell August magazine advised of some
Aussie success in the Peking to Paris Motor
Challenge (a 36 day event covering over
13,500 kilometres of the world's most difficult
motoring conditions). This year, 2 members of
the Bristol Owners Club embarked on an
experience of a lifetime driving a 1953 Bristol
403 to a resounding victory, coming in first in
their class and eleventh overall in a field of 120
entries. Sebastian Gross and Paul Hickman from
Kendall NSW undertook a huge commitment in
the preparation of the Bristol 403 and in the
logistics of transporting it to the start of the
event in China. The Rally took them through
Mongolia, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia,
Hungary, Slovenia, Italy and Switzerland before
rolling across the finishing line in Paris.
