The Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President will be ending their Candy Exchange Program in Tuba City, AZ during the 49th Annual Western Navajo Nation Fair on October 14, 2017. Mr. Jonathan Nez, the Navajo Nation Vice President is a strong advocate for is taking the lead on this Candy Exchange program. The program is to encourage children to return their candy they collect-ed during the parade for healthy alternative prizes. Other healthy ideas instead of parade candy is bottled water, fruits, pencils and healthy snacks.

Spooky Gloved Munch MixIngredients: 6 cups Cheerios4 cups popcorn1 cup dried fruits1 cup nuts10 clear lg. plastic food handler’s gloves10 pieces string/yarn Directions:1. Combine cheerios, popcorn, dried fruits and nuts in a large bowl. 2. With clean hands, put the mixture into the clear gloves and tie with strings. Enjoy.
Witches BrewIngredients: Orange/ Grape Kool-AidSplendaDirections:1. Combine the orange and grape Kool-Aid and sweeten with Splenda.
Frankenstein Pasta.Ingredients•1 cup – basil, fresh•2 cloves – garlic•1/3 oz (167 kernels) – pine nuts, dried•1/3 cup – Parmesan cheese, grated•1 dash – salt•1/3 cup – olive oil•16 ounce – whole wheat pasta shells•3 medium – cucumber•4 oz – mozzarella cheese•1 cup – black olives, canned Directions1. In a blender or food processor combine basil, garlic, pine nuts, parmesan, salt (you can add pepper if you want as well) and olive oil. Taste and add more salt, pepper or garlic if desired.2. Bring a pot of water (about 5 cups) to a boil and add whole wheat pasta. Cook according to box instructions. Drain and add pesto sauce. Stir well and let cool.3. Peel and chop up 1 1/2 of the cucum-bers and stir in to pasta.4. Pour out onto a platter and make a rectangle out of the pasta. Cut two slises of mozzarella and make them into circles using a cookie cutter or knife. Use olives to create Frank's hair, pupils and mouth. Wraparound Snack Ingredients:½ cups of Sugar½ cups of light corn syrup ½ cups of peanut butter3 cups KIX cereal20 peanuts, miniature milk chocolate candy drops, chocolate- or yogurt-cov-ered raisins or miniature marshmallows1 to 2 tablespoons Betty Crocker® multi-colored candy sprinkles20 thin pretzel sticks (2 1/4 inch)Directions:1. In 3-quart saucepan, heat sugar and corn syrup to boiling over medium heat, stirring frequently. Remove from heat; stir in peanut butter until blended. Stir in cereal. Cool slightly, 2 to 3 minutes. 2. Lightly butter hands. Shape 1 to 2 tablespoons cereal mixture into a ball around each candy. Immediately roll in candy sprinkles. Place pretzel stick into each cereal ball.

Choose light color costumes & decorate costumes & bags with
reflective tape or stick-ers.
Masks can sometimes obstruct a child’s vision,
try non-toxic face paint & makeup whenever
possible.
Have Kids use glow sticks or flash-
lights to help them see & be seen at night.
Children under the age of 12 should have
adult supervision. If kids are mature enough to be out with-
out supervision, remind them to stay within familiar areas &
trick or treat in groups.
Popular trick-or-treat-ing hours are 5pm -9pm so be especially alert for kids during those hours.
When selecting a costume for a child, make sure it fits to
prevent trips and falls.

FoodCorps is an organization that connects kids to healthy food in school. I currently serve at Moencopi Day School where I help teach hands on lessons in gardening, nutrition, and cooking. My goal is for the students to taste fresh vegetables in the garden, learn recipes using those vegetables, and to be excited about sharing the information they learned with their families.

Summer plants such as; summer squash, tomatoes, beans, chilis, eggplant melons and corn. You can take the plants and turn them back into the soil to create nutrients for next years planting.
