Balfour 100 November 2, 2017, marks 100 years since the Balfour Declaration, a historic statement of sympathy issued by the British Government for the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people in the Land of Israel.

The Balfour Declaration is outstanding in that it became part of the 1922 mandate issued by the League of Nations, the precursor to the United Nations. The League of Nations decision was a major milestone: it granted official recognition of the Jewish national movement, which led Israel's independence on May 14th, 1948, and to Israel's

So where do diplomats go on Halloween? They go trick-or-treating at Queen's Park with the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell (Lieutenant Governor of Ontario); Honourable Dave Levac, MPP (Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario); and a group of highly professional Chiefs of Protocol from all provinces and territories of Canada at a reception in honour of the 2017 Chiefs of Protocol Conference.

Israel Philharmonic Orchestra The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, under the leadership of Maestro Zubin Mehta, gave a brilliant performance in Toronto on October 29. The program included pieces by Matan Poznansky, Maurice Ravel and Richard Strauss. Earlier this year, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro Peter Oundjian, visited Israel as cultural emissaries for Canada. The IPO, supported by the Canadian and American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, were quick to reciprocate. They provided a great opportunity for Torontonians to hear this wonderful orchestra, twenty seven years after its first visit to Canada. It was an amazing celebration of the friendly relations and close cultural cooperation between Canada and Israel.
