NEWSLETTER 2015
Dear CMC Vellore Medical Alumni,
As 2015 draws to a close and we careen towards
the New Year, the Alumni Office here at Vellore
wishes you and your loved ones a Blessed
Christmas and a Peaceful and Fulfilling 2016. In
this Alumni Newsletter we summarize key
events of 2015 and provide information about
key future alumni events. In particular, we
provide details of the new Alumni Website
(www.cmcvellorealumni.org) that has a host of
interesting features, including a new online,
searchable Alumni directory that will replace the
earlier alumni page and directory. We urge those
undergraduate and post-graduate alumni who
have not done so already to access this new site
and create your personal login and password so
that you can access all the new features of this
website. Please also help us update the Alumni
directory by filling in the form online or
requesting from the Alumni office, and
returning, a completed digital or print version of
this form. Read on for more details of the new
website and how you can help us make this a
vibrant and interactive portal to connect alumni
with each other and with their Alma Mater.
This newsletter also provides a digest of
accolades won by our alumni over 2015. It is
possible that there were many more accolades
and events involving our Alumni that we are not
aware of. We hope to capture more such
moments in the future and we request you to
send in relevant details so that we can share
them online and through other dissemination
portals. The newsletter also provides a list of
alumni who passed away in 2015 and whose
lives, work, and friendship we honor and
cherish. The new Alumni website carries
obituaries for some of these alumni. We will be
grateful if any of you could write up obituaries
and provide us a photograph for those of our
alumni where we have not be able to provide
these.
It has been a privilege to work with the Office
Bearers of the Alumni Association over 2015.
Dr. Vinod Abraham, our energetic and capable
Secretary, has been absolutely fabulous in
keeping everything together and I are sure he
will return from his Senior Training Fellowship
stint at Johns Hopkins refreshed and eager to
contribute to the new initiatives we have planned
for 2016. We shall update you on these
initiatives shortly. I especially thank Dr Pippa
Pavamani (nee Deodhar), our talented website
editor, who compiled and edited this newsletter.
We are also grateful to Vasanth and Keerthi in
the Alumni Office for all their hard work. We
look forward to your suggestions on how the
Alumni Association and the Alumni Office can
be more relevant and useful to you in
connecting, facilitating collaboration, and
strengthening bonds between alumni and with
CMC; and in furthering the mission and vision
of your Alma Mater. May the “Silver and Blue”
continue to illumine your life through 2016, and
remind you of the warmth and goodwill that this
global family has for you.
With warm regards and best wishes,
Prathap Tharyan (1974)
President, Alumni Association

Alumni Website:
This year, the Alumni Association was very happy to launch the new alumni website
(www.cmcvellorealumni.org). This new website will shortly replace the existing Alumni page that can
currently be accessed via the Alumni link on the CMC Home Page (www.cmch-vellore.edu/). Over the
coming months we hope to redirect anyone clicking the link to the earlier webpage to the new website.
Since this an entirely new website, it requires all alumni to create a fresh login and password and update
their contact and other details in the new website We are grateful to the many alumni who have registered
themselves and filled the profile form in the new website. This is an earnest appeal to all alumni
(undergraduate AND post-graduate) who have not done this so far- please do create a login id and fill the
profile form online. It is an easy and simple process and the Alumni Office will be happy to help you in
this regard. Please email the Alumni Office ([email protected]) if you have not received a link
and login id, or if you have any difficulties in creating a login id or in filling the form. You can also
upload your photograph (so that there is a face to a name!) as well as details of your professional work
through your CV and list of publications. The latter details are optional, but making details of your
career, academic and clinical interests and activities available to fellow alumni will facilitate
collaboration among alumni and strengthen common bonds. It will also provide, in one place, a measure
of the combined global accomplishments of the medical alumni of CMC Vellore, and thus of the
influence and impact that our alma mater has had in India and around the world.
We hope the new website will serve as a vibrant forum to promote the Association’s objective of
promoting and fostering an enduring relationship between alumni and our alma mater. Among its many
features, is the online Alumni Directory that is accessible only to alumni who have created a personal
login and password. In addition, the website has other features such as Citations of the various awards
(e.g. Paul Harrison, Motto Award, and Meritorious Service Award etc), Minutes of Alumni Association
Meetings, and „In Memoriam‟ pays a tribute to our alumni who have passed on. The website also enables
alumni to book rooms in the Alumni Guest House. Many of these facilities are also only be available to
alumni who have created a personal login id and password.
How can you contribute?
A section called „A Day in the Life of‟ attempts to showcase the diversity of fields that alumni
work in. So far, this section has interesting accounts from Dr. Bobby Cherayil (MBBS batch of
1974), Dr. Emmanuel Lazarus (2007) and Dr. Anil Henry (1984). We welcome contributions
from UG and PG alumni to this section that will give other alumni a glimpse of your life and
work- please send it to [email protected] or you can use the tab „Contribute‟ on the
Alumni Website. The Editorial Board will go through the write-ups before they are featured on
the website.
If you have any other news which you think is of interest to alumni worldwide, please use the
„Contribute‟ tab to do so. This could be a write up about the work or lives of other alumni that
you think ought to be made more widely known.
The Alumni website has links to Reunion notices as well as Reunion photographs. Please do send
pictures of Alumni reunions or Class get-togethers that invariably happen where two or three
CMC alumni meet!
If you have any other ideas on how the alumni website can be more relevant to your needs, do send in
your suggestions to the alumni office. With your help we hope the new website can become an
interactive and exciting portal for alumni all over the world.
Alumni Directory: This year the Alumni Association brought out the Eighth edition of the print version
of the Alumni Directory, featuring the details of medical alumni from the batches of 1942 to 2009. An
innovative feature of this Directory is batch photos, providing a rendezvous with your past and yester
years. Sincere thanks to all the alumni who helped by sending their priceless batch photos! We hope this
Directory, with its condensed information, will serve as a companion to the more detailed online Alumni
Directory.
You can obtain a copy of the print version of the Directory either by sending a cheque or demand draft to
the Alumni Office, or by making the payment online at http://clin.cmcvellore.ac.in/PAYALUMNI/ . The
Directory will be sent by Speed Post within India and by Registered Post outside India.
