Dear friends at Christchurch
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, .. he was buried,
.. he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and ..
he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. (1 Cor.15:3-5)
This month we will be celebrating the events surrounding the first
Easter – Palm Sunday, when Jesus was cheered into Jerusalem as the
new king, Maundy Thursday, when he met for his final meal with his
disciples, Good Friday, when he was crucified, and Easter Day, when
he rose again.
According to the apostle Paul, these events are ‘of first importance’
– taken together they are the most important events in the world.
But it is all too easy with the passage of time for the significance of
Jesus’ death and resurrection to become dulled. We lose sight of
how significant these events are for our own lives, and so we also
lose sight of how important they are for those who don’t yet know
the Lord Jesus.
In a couple of months’ time we will have our Hope Moreton 2016
mission. There will be opportunities to point others to the Lord, but
we will be unlikely to do that if we don’t remember the wonder of
what he has done for us. So, this month, let’s make sure we make
time to do just that. Our daily readings in Luke’s gospel – 40 days of
Prayer’ will lead us through Jesus’ journey to the cross and the
empty grave. Our services will engage us with what those events
mean for us today.
And those services over Easter are a good opportunity to invite
family and friends, as we prepare to invite them to Hope Moreton
2016.
Yours in Christ
