Alternative Spring Break 2012: Dream B.I.G Mentors
Last week, a group of student coordinators and lead mentors
took a trip to Marvell, AR and visited the Marvell and Elaine High
Schools. This gave the coordinators and mentors an opportunity
to learn more about the area and to get to know the futurecamp attendants. There is much to learn about this poverty
stricken region and the many students who need motivation to
succeed. Become a Dream BIG mentor and help support these
girls in continuing their education and creating a better future.
Alternative Spring Break will hold two trips for the Dream B.IG. (Believing in Girls) program.
It will consist of female student mentors facilitating two, three-day girl empowerment
camps for high school girls from the Arkansas Delta region. One will be a day camp in South-
west, AR from March 18th - March 23rd and will need 10 mentors. The second trip will be
an overnight camp taking place at Mt. Sequoyah in Fayetteville for over 50 girls on March
17th - March 22nd. This trip will need 20 student mentors to help facilitate.

Cotton Bowl 2012
It was a great weekend for Arkansas during the Cotton Bowl weekend! Before the champi-
onship win, students from the University of Arkansas collaborated with Mission Arlington
for a service project on January 5th. One hundred and eighty volunteers, including Chancel-
lor Gearhart, volunteered their services for two hours. They were able to fill two tractor
trailers full of toys to give to the kids of Arlington next Christmas.
It was a wonderful weekend working with the great people of Mission Arlington. If you’re
ever in that area, please stop by and give a hand. Thank you volunteers! Woo Pig Sooie!!
Email the VAC President, Mirelle, at [email protected] if you have any questions.
