Year 7 art students have been working on some great sculptures using balsa wood, and finished with paint and glue. The concept is based on the famous Australian sculptor Robert Klippell, whose work can be seen in galleries around the world. The process involves some freehand drawing to generate ideas, followed by the refinement of one of those ideas to work as a sculpture. They are designed to be abstract pieces, they do not represent recognisable objects. What you see is up to you! The big challenge for the students was to ensure the pieces fit together neatly, and working out how to make the artwork look interesting from all angles while still being stable. They have done a great job of this. Some of the sculptures from last semester are appearing in the upcoming Zart Art catalogue, as well as being shown in the gallery space at the Zart Art HQ in Box Hill. The exhibition opening is Thursday 20 September 2018, 4.00 - 5.00pm. There is also an invitation for the opening and gallery times, which you can find later in the newsletter.

The Year 8 Girls Hockey team enjoyed a great day of interschool sport on Monday. Although they didn’t manage to secure a win they were very competitive and improved significantly after each match. Evelyn Ly did an outstanding job as goal keeper and Felix Chung (Year 9) provided the team with valuable feedback and words of encouragement as student coach. The team should be very pleased with their efforts and should be congratulated on their excellent teamwork and behaviour.

There was a lot of fun to be had in the library at recess today (Friday 7th) with the Dress Up Day for Literacy Week. We had all sorts of characters wandering around the school and there was a “Parade” in the library at recess. Check out some of the fun….
