R E F L E C T I O N

LORD, I HAVE TIMEEveryone complains that they do not have enough time. It is because they look at their lives from too human a point of view. There’s always time to do what God wants us to do, but we must put ourselves completely into each moment that God offers us. I went out, Lord. People were coming and going, walking and running. Everything was rushing, cars, lorries, the street, the whole town. People were rushing not to waste time, perpetually looking at their mobiles; they seemed to be rushing after time, to catch up with time, to gain time! You understand, Lord, they simply haven’t the time. They are dying, they have no…… Too late!!.....They have no more time. And so as you see, Lord, everyone runs after time; despite their very best efforts they are still short of time, of a great deal of time. Lord, you must have made a mistake in your calculations. There is a big mistake somewhere. The hours are too short, the days are too short, and our lives are too short. But then, we must remember that time is a gift that you have given us, a perishable gift, a gift that does not keep. Lord, I have time, I have plenty of time, all the time that you give me: the years of my life, the days of my years, the hours of my days, they are all mine; mine to fill, quietly, calmly, but to fill completely, up to the brim, and to offer them all to you, my Lord and my God.

DAY OF EUCHARISTIC ADORATION As you were told a few weeks ago, the Parish, with many others throughout the country, will be holding a Day Of Eucharistic Adoration on Friday, 7th September at St Joseph’s. This event coincides with the Eucharistic Congress being held in Liverpool over the weekend of the 7th to 9th September. The day will commence with Morning Prayer at 9 15 a m followed by Mass at 9 30 a m. At the end of Mass there will be Benediction after which the Holy Eucharist will remain on the altar throughout the day culminating at 6 45 p m with Benediction and the Holy Rosary. Our Day of Adoration will be a SILENT adoration.  It is hoped that as many members of the Parish as possible will avail themselves of the opportunity to spend some 'personal time' with Our Lord during this day. In order to ensure that Our Lord is not left alone at anytime during the day, there is a Time Sheet at the back of all three churches for Parishioners to indicate a time when they will be able to be present. If anyone has any queries please speak to Deacon Jeremy.

THANK YOU Jean Rejniak would like to thank everyone in the Parish for the lovely bouquet presented to her on the occasion of her 90th birthday.

AND FINALLY The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'." ~ unknown

Through the love of the Father, Son and Spirit, our parish will be the Body of Christ in Godalming

Here is our third summary of Parish developments following the recent Parish survey. You ca n read the full version on the Parish website at: http:// www.stedmundgodalming.btck.co.uk/Parish Developments

How can we move from simply trying to maintain our Parish to growing our Parish? An important part of Divine Renovation is that it involves the priest and people recognising that the role of the priest in many parishes will have to change. The Second Vatican Council reminded bishops and priests that they need to focus on the threefold ministry of Jesus, who

was Prophet, Priest and King. This means that bishops and priests should focus on preaching, sacraments and leading.  In The Joy of the Gospel, Pope Francis says: “The new evangelisation calls for a personal involvement on the part of each of the baptised.” We have now launched two initiatives towards this end: Know Your Neighbour (KYN) and Alpha.

We have now run two KYN weekends where we all wear our name badges and use our names at the Sign of Peace during the Mass. Its purpose is to break through the wall of anonymity that exists in our Parish. This really is the first and most basic step in building meaningful community. After the first KYN week-end, many parishioners commented on how they had actually learnt the name or names of people they had seen time and again in church. Our Parish should aim to be a place “where everybody knows your name”. Knowing somebody’s name is only the starting point in building community. As Christians, there are many other ways that we can and should help our neighbour. The intention is therefore that we will use KYN week-ends to help us to relate to those around us in church in a less superficial way. KYN week-ends will be planned every one to two months.  We have created and advertised a Parish Assistant (PA) role (initially 10 hours pw) to support Fr David and the DR team as Divine Renovation will inevitably generate a lot more work in terms of administration, monitoring and record-keeping. We are currently reviewing the effectiveness of our Parish buildings in supporting our Mission and will provide regular updates on progress.

P A R I S H D E V E L O P M E N T SThrough the love of the Father, Son and Spirit, our parish will be the Body of Christ in

Godalming

Over the past few months, you will have seen regular updates on the Parish survey and the various developments that have taken place as a result. You can read the articles in full on the Parish website at: http://www.stedmundgodalming.btck.co.uk/ParishDevelopments However, during August, we will also be publishing some key extracts in case you missed them the first time! So, to begin, here is the first summary of the Parish survey results.

Overall people are optimistic about the future of our Parish. Most encouragingly, people are generally willing to give both more time and more money to help our Parish. There is overwhelming support for renewing our Parish.

Whilst people feel that the needs of the congregation are listened to, they also indicate that how that happens and the response back to the whole community needs to improve.

People are very supportive of the way our finances are managed, but less enthusiastic about how our other resources are used. Current resources are not seen as adequate, though, to secure the future.

We need to ensure people are properly equipped and trained for Parish roles. More is needed.

We agree that the teaching of God’s word is both clear and uncompromising but are less convinced that we receive all the spiritual nourishment we need. We generally agree that we need to change how we share the Gospel to meet society’s needs given how much society has changed in recent years.

We feel that the music at youth masses inspires real heart felt praise and that it’s important to have a variety of music available. We need to ensure that all our Masses inspire worship.

We are generally enthusiastic that the worship and preaching gives us something to help us face the week ahead.
