Protocol for Reciprocal
Golf Play
When planning to play at other private
golf facilities, here are some guidelines
to get you started:
#1: Call the other golf facility first and let
them know you are a member of a pri-
vate club and are interested in recipro-
cating with their club.
#2: Verify that they will in fact recipro-
cate with our facility, and ask what days
and times are available, whether you
can bring guests, what are the dress
code requirements and what can you
expect to pay in fees.
#3: Generally at this point they will ask
for a call from your Head Golf Profes-
sional to set it up. The staff at the SWCC
golf shop will be happy to take over
from here and make that call.
#4: During the winter months, when our
facility is closed and you need a call
from us to set up a reciprocal round, just
leave a message on our golf shop
phone (209-795-2141). We check for
messages every-other-day and will get
back to you as soon as possible.
By doing this ground-work ahead of
time we can eliminate the frustration of
“phone-tag” scenarios. There are many
great private clubs out there, so take
advantage of the benefits of being a
member at Sequoia Woods!

Paying Your Member Account
When you write a check to pay your SWCC
account balance, please include:
(1) the member account number
(2) the primary member name(s)
If you have auto-payment set up through your
bank, please make sure the bank prints your
SWCC member number on the checks (and be
sure to update that number if you change your
type of membership.)
If someone other than the primary member
writes checks, it’s still important to reference a
primary member name or the SWCC member
number. If there are two primary member
names on the account, it would be helpful if
they were both referenced.
Our bookkeeper, Kay Abernethy, is great at
keeping us organized, but without names or
numbers, the payments can’t be processed.
Kay can be reached in our business office,
Monday through Friday (hours vary), and she’s
more than happy to help: 209-795-1000 ext. 2.

POLICIES FOR USING
THE MOUNTAIN RETREAT RESORT
We hope our members are enjoying the reciprocal
arrangement with our neighbors at The Mountain
Retreat resort. We’d like to remind everyone of the
current policies, so please read, respect and abide!
Our members may use only the indoor swimming
pool, spa, sauna and workout room (all located on
the lower level) at Mountain Retreat as part of your
Sequoia Woods membership. There’s no charge for
this but use is restricted to SWCC members in good
standing. You may bring no more than two guests
with you to the facility and you must accompany
them—guest card privileges will not otherwise be
honored.
You may bring your children with you to the facility
but you must accompany them, as well. Your chil-
dren are considered guests. (To everyone’s under-
standing, this isn’t a place to drop-off your kids to
play or to “hang-out”.)
Most importantly, you’ll need to present your perma-
nent plastic Sequoia Woods card with your name
and number for identification, as well as a second
ID. Your card is the only way you can use the facili-
ty. Once they cross-check your card with the active
member list we provide them, their staff will buzz the
locked access door open. (If you’ve lost your SWCC
member card please let us know and we’ll send for
replacements, which can be picked up here at the
clubhouse.)
Hours of operation, summer: 8:00am until 10:00pm;
off season: (fall, winter & spring). 8:00am until 8:00pm

Men’s Club News by Bernie Tillotson, President
On July 18 we held our fifth tournament of the sea-
son, with 46 golfers enjoying the event. This was a
two-man best ball format with the top five teams in
each of the two flights qualifying for a horse race
held after lunch. We were able to pay down five
places in each flight. The first-place winners of the
horse race were Alan Beymer and Cam Deen in the
first flight and George Cook and Wayne Stroble in
the second flight.
Before our tournament we held our putting contest.
This month we had seven players who sank the putt.
Mark Scott won in a putt to win $40. I would like to
remind everyone that we will hold this putting con-
test before each tournament, paying $40 to the win-
ner each month. At the end of the season we will
ask each player who has “holed-out” during season
to participate in the final putting contest for a $200
purse going to the winner.
Our next tournament will be held Thursday August
22. This is a team event with the Pro Shop making
the pairings. In this event you can only have four
clubs in your bag. You pick!
Finally, I would again like to remind everyone of our
Rullhausen Charity Classic Tournament coming Sun-
day August 18. This year’s selected Charity is the
Calaveras County Search & Rescue. All the pro-
ceeds from this event goes to support their cause
and we look forward to raising lots of money to sup-
port their efforts. There is still time to purchase a tee-
sign or donate an item for the silent auction. Please
contact me or Alan Court for more detail. This is a
very popular event and sign-ups to play are filling up
fast. We can only accommodate 120 to 130 players
depending on how many private carts we have.
So, if you have not signed up yet, you should do so
as soon as possible. This is a scramble format with
teams of four. You can sign-up as a foursome, a
couple, or as an individual. Hope you will join us on
August 18.
‘See you on the course.

The Sequoians
By Dodie Raley, Captain
As I write a column for August, I wonder where July
has gone, already. I guess that’s what happens
when you’re having so much fun.
It is my pleasure to announce that our last year’s
Captain, Julie Lapham, was our Low Net Charm Girl,
playing the Back Nine on July 9, with a low net score
of 27 in the third flight. Sue Pollack was Low Net with
35 for first flight, and Sandy Brown was Low Net with
29 for second flight.
Julie was also the star that hosted the Niner’s Summer
Tournament on July 12. This is a lot of fun and gives us
the opportunity to show our partners some of our
moves on the course. We had an amazing turnout of
24 couples participating. First Place with a score of
36.0 went to Dorris and Wayne Luty and Shirley and
Tom McGill. Second Place with a score of 37.2 went
to Dodie and Brian Raley and Syl and Jim Walton.
Third Place with a score of 38.1 went to Shirley and
Wayne Stroble and Claudia and Alan Beymer and
Fourth Place with a score of 38.1 went to Julie and
Denny Lapham and Sue and Guy Pollak. Congratu-
lations to all.
From July 23 through July 30 we held our annual
Match Play Tournament. Congratulations to all who
participated, particularly our Third Round competi-
tors, Sue Pollak and Shari Gong. Sue Pollak prevailed
till the end. Congratulations!
Our annual Tournament of Champions is coming up
in August and I encourage you to participate.
“Champions” sounds intimidating, but don’t be dis-
couraged from joining in the fun. Everyone can be a
champion to their handicap.
Dates to remember in August:
August 5 Board Meeting, 10 a.m.
August 6 Low Net Charm Girl, Front 9,
General Meeting and lunch to follow
August 14 Open Day, Saratoga
August 20 Invitational, Spring Creek
August 20 TOC, Round 1
August 23 TOC, Round 2
August 27 TOC, Round 3
For Tuesday Play, remember to RSVP on the Golf
Genius and arrive prior to 8 am for a Tee Time of 8:30.

Women’s 18-Hole Club by Lynn Manfree, Captain
Greetings from the SWWGC!
The month of July started with our fourth Low Gross/
Low Net of the season. Congratulations to Georgia
Loveless, Player of the Month, with a low net of 65.
Our Low Gross for July was Elise Hanrahan, with a
score of 92. Congratulations ladies!
The following weekend was our busiest weekend of
the year, celebrating the 4th of July. The town was
packed with many visitors. The weather remained
very pleasant and the golf course was full.
On July 17, Maureen Larmour and Cathie Andel
hosted our annual Member/Member Tournament.
Our first place winners were Kathleen Garmsen and
Lynn Manfree, with a net 57! Hooray! Golf was fol-
lowed by a scrumptious lunch, which we were able
order ahead of time, so everything was there wait-
ing for us. It was a fun day for everyone, and it was
one of our largest turnouts.
The following week was the WGANC tournament
“Champ of Champs”. Any previous Club Champi-
onship winners are invited to this event. I’m proud
to say that Kathleen Garmsen, Elise Hanrahan and
Cathy Murphy-Potter attended this year. While they
didn’t get any medals, they were NOT in last place!
We will end July with very hot weather, and will roll
right into August with a very busy calendar. We will
start the month with our fifth Player of the Month.
Sunday August 11 is a scheduled Play Day. This is
where we just show up and play! Then on Tuesday
and Wednesday, August 13 and 14, we have our
Club Championship Tournament followed with our
19th Hole Party on the Garmsen’s deck. Please mark
your calendars for August 22,, when we are hosting
the Bret Harte Girls Golf team for nine holes of golf,
followed by dinner on the deck. Then we end the
month with our Trilogy tournament hosted by Tess
Leary and Kathy Ganley. And don’t forget the
Charity Classic hosted by the Men’s Club with the
proceeds going to Calaveras Search and Rescue,
a worthy organization.

And if you are interested in joining the SWWGC

with the election to be held on September 18. So
don’t be surprised if you are asked to help partici-
pate.
