Dear Families,

Many of our students participated in NAPLAN last week. (The National Assessment Program —

Literacy and Numeracy) NAPLAN is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. It

tests the types of skills that every child needs to progress through school and life and covers skills

in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. Congratulations to all

students who took part.

SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD AT HOME

Children spend a large part of their life at home with their parents and anything home can do to

help children with their learning can be of great benefit. At home students can benefit from one

to one support and spending time with the ones they love while learning will make it so much

more fun.

Each week the East Torrens Newsletter will endeavour to add some maths puzzles you may like to

enjoy with your child/children.

You will find the answers hidden somewhere in this newsletter.

SAPSASA News

On Friday, 10th of May, our athletics team travelled to the SA Athletics Stadium to

compete in the Torrens River District SAPSASA carnival. In a day of mixed results,

performances and emotions, the boys and girls strove for PBs and revelled in the

chance to go up against the best athletes from schools in the Torrens River district.

Well done to each and every member of the 2019 athletics team.

A special mention goes to Diana, from M5, for winning her 800m race and to Buffy,

from R12, and Harsimran, from R13, for winning their age categories for the

discus. The three athletes will now compete for the Torrens River District athletics

team in the SA Metropolitan Athletics Championships on Tuesday, 21st May

(Week 4).

The best of luck and effort girls and we hope that you can create an individual

PB each.

More SAPSASA News - Sporting captains for 2019

Congratulations to the following students in being awarded sports captains for East Torrens PS.

Each child who earns this title are leaders in not only their chosen sport, but also in our school

community. They are given a yellow captain’s badge which children in the school will

see each day and recognise that the recipients are our strong school leaders and

mentors.

Adela and Hannah, from R12, are the co-captains for our senior SAPSASA netball

team. The knock-out carnival will be played on Thursday in Week 6 against three

other schools. Good luck girls.

Rueben, from R13, Burhan and Atirah from R12 and Bijou, from R17, are this year’s

rugby league captains who will lead our teams in the annual Yr 6/7 Rugby League

SAPSASA tackle carnival on Thursday of Week 5. This will be one of the

most fun and rewarding carnivals of the year.

Koby, from R13, and Paolo, from R17, will lead our SAPSASA soccer team against

traditional rivals, Thorndon Park PS, on Tuesday of Week 5. The knock-out format

means that a win is a must if we are to progress to the next round. Good luck boys.

In 2019 our school will be transitioning from hardcopy newsletters to digital form by using the Skoolbag app and on our website. Skoolbag is a digital app which will help us communicate more effectively with our family/student community. We are asking families to install the Skoolbag app in preparation for this.

To install it, just search for the Skoolbag app in the Apple App Store or Google Play and install the Skoolbag app on your device, then tap in the select your school search and type in your school name.

East Torrens is an environmentally friendly school and we will endeavour to put all newsletters on the app in the future rather than send copies.
