Message from SCC

fun to hear all the stories the children bring back with

time.
We hope you have a wonderful Christmas filled with
joy, hope and peace!

Outdoor Art Curriculum
As part of the Outdoor Classroom at
Saddleback Children’s Center Miss Meagan has
been collaborating with our teachers to enhance
the art experiences that are provided during
this time.
We introduce new materials or different ways
for children to express themselves creatively
throughout the school year. We started with
basic art materials that children were taught
how to use and respect and can freely choose to
remove from and return to the art shelf.
Gradually, new and real materials are added as
children learn how to use them.
At SCC, we feel it is important for our children
to have the opportunity to use real art
materials and tools. When children are trusted
and shown how to use and care for these tools
and materials, they live up to the responsibility
of using them. It has been observed that when
children are provided these materials to create
art, there is more attention to detail and
purpose behind the work.
If this is something you are passionate about,
we will be collecting items for donation. We will
keep a drop-box near Miss Meagan’s office.
Here is a list of needed materials:
- Compressed charcoal white or black
- Charcoal pencils
- Pastels
- Soft/hard charcoal
- Acrylic Paint
- Canvas Panels
- Bristol/Matte Paper
*These items could be purchased from
Michaels or Amazon.com*
Donations for the Outdoor Classroom
We are looking to add materials to our Outdoor Classroom to enhance imaginative and cooperative play. Here is a list of needed items:
• baby doll clothes (newborn size)
• receiving blankets
• dress-up clothes
We will keep a box for donations in Miss Kristin’s office.
Fundraising at SCC Fundraising Opportunities Throughout the year we will have a few fundraising
opportunities here at SCC. Some of these
opportunities that you may look out for are:
• See’s Candies in the Spring
• Family Night Out
• SCC T-Shirts
• Kid’s Night Out
• Tile purchase
We have some great projects that we are working on
at SCC to make our school shine from the inside out
even more than it already does!
Fundraising Last Year… Last year your fundraising proceeds went toward our
Outdoor Classroom Project and we successfully
renovated the kitchen! We also raised enough money
to purchase new grass where the children play as
well as a magnet board for the Big Yard. This is all
thanks to the support of Community Lutheran
Church members and SCC Parents.
Current Fundraising Projects Outdoor Classroom Project
This will be an ongoing project for our play yards.
As mentioned in our previous newsletter, our very
own Outdoor Classroom is now certified as a
demonstration site. This means that our school offers
a curriculum that provides learning opportunities
that are multi-sensory as well as holistic.
From a fundraising aspect, you will continue to see
improvements to our play yards as we continue to
meet fundraising goals!
To find out more about this you can go to
www.outdoorclassroomproject.org.
Current Fundraising Projects
Continued…
Continued improvements
As we have mentioned, the proceeds from our fall
fundraising will go toward the Outdoor Classroom
Project as well as furniture for individual classrooms.
Please look forward to more information about how to
contribute to that in the new year.
So far this year As a school, we have raised $1,200 through the Poppin
Popcorn Fundraiser.
Ways to get involved • Any of our fundraiser opportunities
• Straight donations
• Ask about how to volunteer
Help support us while you shop! The AmazonSmile
Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price from
your eligible AmazonSmile purchases, which will go
toward our school and church when you select

Christmas Presents
One of the main reasons we have the custom of giving and receiving presents at Christmas, is to remind us of the presents given to Jesus by the Wise Men: Frankincense, Gold and Myrrh…
Christmas itself is really about a big present that God gave the world about 2000 years ago - Jesus! One of the most famous Bible verses, John 3:16, says: 'God loved the world so much, that he gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him may not be lost but have eternal life.'. All over the world, families and friends give presents to each other. Most children around the world believe in a Christmas gift bringer. It's often St. Nicholas, Santa Claus or Father Christmas, but in parts of Germany they believe that it is the Christkind, in Spain they believe it is the Wise Men and in parts of Italy they believe it is an old lady called Befana.
These presents are also left in different places! In most of Europe, the presents are left in shoes or boots put out by the children. In Italy, the UK and the USA presents are left in stockings, often left hanging by a fire place. In many countries, presents for friends and family may be left under the Christmas Tree. In the UK, they are often opened on Christmas day morning with all the family together.
The custom of hanging stockings comes from the story of St. Nicholas.
Presents are opened on different days over the world as well. The earliest presents are opened is on St. Nicholas' Eve on December 5th when children in Holland of ten receive their presents. On St. Nicholas' Day (6th December) children in Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic and some other European countries open some of their presents.
Children in the UK, USA and many other countries, such as Japan, open their presents on Christmas Day, December 25th. The latest presents are opened on January 6th (a month after the earliest). This is known as Epiphany and is mainly celebrated in Catholic countries such Spain and Mexico.
