Note from Ann

In 1980, believe it or not, we didn’t have computers. Everything was done with pen and paper.

We couldn’t track our customers. If someone wanted to buy a gift for a friend such as a presser

foot, we could not easily tell them what machine she had, never mind whether or not she owned

that foot. Today, much as we love to hate computers, they have changed how we do business.

Note from Ann

In the early 80’s, we were making garments and classes were for pattern construction

and fitting. We didn’t use sergers, but sewed knit t-shirts using the vari-overlock

stitch. We had to master how each machine made buttonholes.

There were no embroidery machine. We used free motion embroidery and combined

stitches to do decorative stitching and on ready-to-wear, or the garments we made.

There were no rotary cutters.

Then came Walmart etc. and the quilting craze was on. People still wanted to sew as a

creative outlet, and fabric companies started to carry quilting cottons in coordinated

designs and colors. AND quilts did not involve buttonholes, zippers, or fitting.
