Art in Transit is a collaboration between Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology and BMRCL
Ms. Rhea Khanna, a student from Srishti Institute of Art Design and Technology, spent hours observing the various
forms of rest people took at Cubbon Park Station. She watched how people old and young sat or slept or just
relaxed on logs, granite slabs, the grass lawns and on the various trees of Cubbon Park. The essence of this idea
was to bring the many forms of rest into the new Underground Cubbon Park station so that the site reciprocates
and mimics the functional aspects of resting from the locality.
This furniture piece was designed in many segments and was designed to be spread along the platform while the
commuters waited for the Metro, yet feel like they were in the park.
The main aim of this project is to enhance the waiting time experience of the traveller in the waiting area of the
station. This is done by creating interactive and multifunctional furniture to address a variety of different functions
of the public space like resting and interacting. It attempts to activate the potential energy of the station and
transform the way a commuter experiences the space by breaking the monotony of the wait.
